How do you feel about change?

Do you shy away from it? Or step into that discomfort?

Too often people miss the signs their body is sending them, because they are comfortable in their current lifestyle. They have been eating/drinking/living/looking this way for so long, and they are “fine”, they say.

But what if they just think they are fine? What if they are using that word to mask the things that they really don’t need to be feeling?

Here are some signs that you might need to think about a lifestyle change:
• You’re constantly feeling fatigued
• You can’t go more than 3 hours without eating
• You struggle with brain fog
• You have troubles sleeping
• You’ve been noticing some weight gain, especially around your abdomen
• You struggle with food cravings
• You suffer from painful PMS
• You constantly feel sleepy after meals
• You feel “puffy” and swollen all the time

The love we show ourselves is the MOST impactful love we can receive!

When thinking of all the people you want to show some love to today, make sure you don’t forget about the most IMPORTANT person…

Yourself!

With endless to do lists, school drop offs and pick ups, work deadlines, caring for family, and done even get me started on the last 2 years, perhaps caring for yourself has taken a back burner lately.

If that’s the case, I must remind you:

YOU CAN’T POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP

Trust me, I’ve tried 😅.

Today, I would like you to take a moment and think about one thing that makes you feel good, and schedule a little time for that today. Doesn’t have to be anything big, but something that cares for YOU either in body, mind, or spirit. Here are some simple ideas:

💦Focus on drinking more water - try the elastic band trick!

🏋🏻‍♀️Fit in a 15 minute workout

🛀Have a nice soothing bath or do a face mask before bed (or both 😉)

📞Call and have a good long chat with an old friend

🧺 ignore that pile of laundry and sit down with a good book instead

Are you ready to level up your lunch? 💫

This pickled cabbage will do just that!

It is bright in both flavour and colour, and the best part is it is SO simple to throw together!

The overnight method of this recipe allows you to maintain the amazing benefits of the apple cider vinegar’s “mother”, a host of beneficial bacteria and enzymes, which would have been destroyed if a cooked brine was used!

In addition to those benefits, vinegar is great for balancing your blood sugar! Vinegar has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity AND can help reduce a blood sugar spike that might occur after your meal!

If that wasn’t enough to convince you to try these….let me just say that they are so good “I put that s$&t on everything!” (I hope someone gets that reference 😂)

PICKLED RED CABBAGE

• 1 cup red cabbage, sliced thin
• 1/2 cup onion, sliced thin
• 1-2 garlic cloves, crushed
• 1 tsp caraway seeds
• 1/2 cup water
• 1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar
• 1/2 tsp sea salt

Instructions:
• Combine water, vinegar, garlic, salt and caraway seeds in a bowl. Set aside.
• In a medium sized bowl, mix onion and red cabbage, then pack into a 16 oz jar
• Pour the vinegar mixture on top of the cabbage and onions. Top with additional vinegar if needed so that the cabbage is completely covered.
• Seal and place in fridge overnight, ideally leaving for 24 hours
• Enjoy!!

Balanced blood sugar is just around the corner for you, if you just follow these 5 simple rules:

1️⃣ Eat your protein first!
This helps to slow the release of glucose into your bloodstream by activating glucagon (your insulin antagonist).

2️⃣ Always include good quality fat sources
Fatty fish, avocado, nuts, olive oil, h**p oil, ghee, flax oil are all great ways to incorporate good fats into your meals.

3️⃣ Focus on meal spacing
Giving your body a “rest” in between your meals allows your body to use up more of the glucose in your blood, store less glucose as fat, AND reminds your body that it can use its stored fat as energy!

4️⃣ Move your body every day!
Moving your body is essential for optimal blood sugar regulation. It helps your cells become more sensitive to insulin, as well as helps your body to utilize more of the glucose from your meal.

5️⃣ Get 7-8 hours of sleep per night
Sleep is sacred! Your body needs that time to reset its cortisol levels from the stressors of the previous day. Without this time to reset, your ghrelin and leptin (hunger and satiety) hormones will be imbalanced the following day, leading to increased hunger and decreased satisfaction after meals.

If you are focusing on supporting your blood sugar, there is no harm in eating out on occasion.

I mean…sometimes ya just don’t WANT to cook. And I 100% support that…and have 100% been there 🤣

There are, however, a few tips you can take with you to help support your blood sugar while eating at a restaurant, so that you avoid the possible blood sugar spike after!

⭐️ SHREDDED BROCCOLI & APPLE SALAD ⭐️

Feeling bored with your current salad rotation?

Well then…do I have the recipe for you! 🙌🏼💫

This salad is bright, crisp, tangy, and SO DELICIOUS. I think I might actually be addicted to it 🤣.

If you still feel like you need a few extra reasons to give it a go:

💫 Broccoli & kale are amazing liver supporting foods, which we know is an essential organ for blood sugar balance!
💫 Apples are high in fibre, antioxidants, and have been shown to offer the body many positive benefits (see previous post on apples for more on this 🍎)
💫 Apple cider vinegar is not only wonderful for increasing digestion, it has also been shown to decrease blood sugar spikes after your meal, sometimes up to about 25%!
