Our unique perspectives on events, and life itself, come from our personal history and our own experiences. Because of this, two people can witness or go through the same thing and have two very different responses. This does not mean that one person is stronger or weaker than the other, it simply means that we respond based on what we have learned, understood, and have been exposed to throughout our lives. I invite you to practice self-compassion in these moments because your mind and body are doing the best they can to protect you. Grounding strategies, CBT exercises (such as de-catastrophization) and mindfulness are excellent resources to utilize. If you are finding that your responses are heavy, overwhelming, or distressing, reaching out to a mental health professional can be a wonderful addition to your self-care. With time, we can change our responses to the world around us 😊 🌈

When we are holding two emotions simultaneously, it can sometimes cause distress or confusion. We are capable of holding two very different feelings at the same time and this does not mean that we are "bad" or "wrong" for doing so. I invite you to approach these moments with non-judgement and acknowledge these emotions with an "and" instead of a "but" 😊 🌟

When someone sends a compliment our way (even if it's difficult to accept) it lightens us by lighting up the reward centers in our brains. If you feel like passing on the love, studies have shown that when we compliment others or make them smile, we feel lifted and it increases our ability to bring gratitude into our day - plus it can start a chain reaction of kindness from one person to the next! 😀 💛

After the holiday season, we can often experience a dip in our moods. If you are struggling with this, try to catch the negative thoughts that may be running through your mind, and practice self-compassion or challenge them 😊 These prompts are a great way to start the practice!

Happy New Year all! As we enter 2024 I thought I would share some gentle reminders that could make for some excellent resolutions 💛 If you see any that connect with you, I invite you to bring that reminder into your own self-care practice 🌻

When we have a fixed mindset we can miss out on opportunities to create connections with others, enjoy new experiences, or discover more about ourselves and what we are capable of. Take some time to notice if you are closing yourself off to new possibilities and challenge a fixed thought with your own version of a growth thought ❤️🌿

On National Indigenous Peoples Day please take the time to celebrate and recognize the voices and contributions of the Indigenous Peoples, as well as acknowledging and confronting the ongoing systemic injustices that continue to negatively impact these communities.

Use this day to engage with Indigenous voices, foster understanding, and celebrate diversity. Remember to keep this spirit of honour and respect for Indigenous Peoples not just today, but every day.

Our thoughts can help to motivate us or they can keep us feeling stuck. If you are noticing thoughts that may be reinforcing low confidence or a feeling that you aren't able to cope, try to catch and replace those thoughts with more realistic ones. When practiced enough, this will help to build yourself up instead of tearing yourself down ❤️

Remember, our thoughts are not facts, and they do not define us!

A helpful tip to create space between yourself and a thought is to internally say, "this is a thought I am having" or, "I am noticing this thought". This gives us the space to unblend and become less enmeshed with our thinking
