📢 Cancer Action Now Responds to Budget 2025

This year's federal budget included important measures for Canada’s health system and for Canadians living with cancer.

✅ We welcome:

- Funding for the Terry Fox Research Institute to advance precision oncology treatments.

- Investments to attract top international research talent.

- Initiatives to improve healthcare access in northern communities.

- These are meaningful steps toward strengthening cancer care and innovation in Canada.

💡 Opportunities to build on these commitments:

- Accelerate access to life-saving cancer medicines, reducing wait times from years to months.

- Advance a pan-Canadian cancer data strategy to ensure equitable, high-quality care nationwide.

- Invest in domestic research and innovation capacity to retain talent and lead globally.

- Reduce interprovincial barriers so patients can access timely care regardless of where they live.

Cancer Action Now is ready to work in partnership with the federal government to turn these commitments into measurable, life-saving outcomes.

Together, we can ensure Canadians living with cancer have the best possible chance to live longer, better lives.

The alarming rise in lethal diseases, including cancer, means we can't afford years-long waits for approved treatments. Our current system is failing patients who are dying before they can even begin therapy.

LSTN is proposing a clear solution: a dedicated regulatory track for life-saving therapies. This will speed up access and save lives. Your voice matters! Sign the petition and help us make this a reality: https://www.change.org/supportLSTN

Canadians living with cancer are demanding more from their cancer care - and rightfully so. We recently conducted a survey of 500 cancer patients living in Canada. Results clearly demonstrated the inherent need for enhanced access to care and treatments.

The major source of dissatisfaction for cancer patients is the lengthy wait times experienced with diagnosis. 25% of patients are currently waiting over 20 weeks from initial symptom concern to treatment. For cancer patients, a lot can change in 20 weeks.

Cancer Action Now continues to advocate for governments and decision makers across the country to make cancer care a priority, and these survey results show the urgency. Join us at canceractionnow.ca

Eight years. Two "normal" mammograms. Then, a cancer diagnosis. Jenny's story is a heartbreaking look at how waiting in our healthcare system can have devastating consequences. "No, you're too young for breast cancer" started a journey of delays, missed opportunities, and a battle she shouldn't have had to fight alone.

Her story is a stark reminder that "access to a waitlist is not access to healthcare." We must demand urgent action to ensure no Canadian endures such a prolonged and emotionally draining journey when facing a life-threatening illness. Let's advocate for better, more timely cancer care for everyone. Read Jenny's story: https://canceractionnow.ca/patient-stories/?selected=jenny-patient-story
