The CAMP Team was started to meet the reproductive care needs of pregnant and birthing people in our community who experience individual and systemic barriers in accessing our healthcare system. We aim to provide care that meets individuals where they are, supports their autonomy and dignity, and provides culturally appropriate care. We aim to apply the principles of trauma informed care, harm reduction and anti-oppression in all aspects of our care.

A CAMP midwife is available for planned visits in any location a client feels comfortable and safe. We have clinic space at Family Midwifery Care and Shelldale Family Gateway and we also see people in their homes, shelters or community organizations (including the CHC).

Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our midwives with questions, suggestions and referrals. You can reach us using our online “Ask for a CAMP midwife” form, phone, text or pager (for emergencies): https://familymidwiferycare.ca/camp-community-access-midwifery-program/

Generally, no! You do not need a special diet when you're breastfeeding.

But breastfeeding and chestfeeding use a ton of energy so it's important to make sure you are getting enough protein and fats to keep your energy up and your body feeling good.

Like spicy food? Go for it! Eating a variety of foods changes the flavour of your breastmilk- this can expose your baby to different tastes and might help accept those foods easier later on!

You do want to avoid fish high in mercury, and excessive alcohol and caffeine.

Oh, and make sure you stay hydrated!

Have more feeding questions?
Curious about some postpartum food ideas that can help sustain you?

Come to cafe on Fridays!
We love to talk about food - whether for you or your baby 😀

See you there!
