Another 8-week strength and mobility series starts tomorrow Sept 13th!

This class is great for anyone wanting to improve their flexibility and ability to move.

BUT it's also built with hypermobility in mind. If you have flexible joints but need to increase your strength this class is absolutely built for you! Did you know that hypermobility ironically can lead to chronic pain?

The goal of this class is to build strength where you are flexible so that you have the ability to move freely in your body without restriction or weakness that leaves you prone to injury, limitation, or pain.

So if you want to unlock your body's full ability to move join me in this 8-week series.

Also, its meant to be affordable! Classes along with everything else these days have gotten so expensive. When you sign up for the whole series each class works out to about $12 per class!

Why is nervous system regulation so important in holistic migraine management?

Did you know that migraine triggers, both emotional and biological can activate the sympathetic nervous system (that fight or flight state)? When this happens it's like the body gets ready for danger and sets off a cascade of responses in the body that can contribute to a migraine such as
- muscle tension
- vasoconstriction
- activation of pain pathways (via inflammation)

This is why nervous system regulation is an important part of the work I do with my coaching clients and something you'll see come up in Sage Migraine Solutions, my migraine coaching program that is designed to help you learn to thrive with migraine. If you're curious, this is your friendly reminder to book your free first coaching session with me! Send me a DM to book.

It can be so hard to avoid things like MSG, nitrates, high-fructose corn syrup, aspartame, color, and other additives.

If you get migraines, struggle with chronic illness, or want to avoid these things for health-conscious reasons it can be hard to discern what's on the labels. Additives like MSG can hide on labels under seemingly innocuous labels like "spices".

Sticking to one ingredient foods is a sure-proof way to ensure the foods you eating are clean.

Keep in mind, if it comes in a package you still want to read the label. For example, a brand of "plain" Costco chicken breasts I read recently included up to 12 different ingredients! Without checking the label one could have easily assumed they only contained chicken.

If you're looking for support identifying trigger foods for migraine or headaches you can sign up now for a Free Introductory call with me. Link to book in bio.

In my personal health journey, I have used supplements as a big part of my healing and wellbeing journey. A truly invaluable part of my migraine toolkit and support for other health challenges including autoimmunity, joint health and a big part of helping me thrive as a healthy human.

A lot of my clients also lean on supplements as a big part of their healing toolkit as well.

However, I am now deeply concerned as Health Canada is considering measures that could potentially remove these vital natural health products from the market. This threat extends not only to supplements but also encompasses a wide range of NHPs, such as natural personal care items like toothpaste, skin serums, deodorants, lotions, and more.

If Health Canada proceeds with these restrictive regulations, we may witness increased pricing and a significant reduction in the availability of these essential products. Treating natural healthcare products like pharmaceutical drugs would have a detrimental impact on those of us who rely on them for support.

To prevent this from happening, we must take action now. Time is limited (please act before July 26th). I strongly urge you to visit http://saveoursupplements.ca and send a letter to your Member of Parliament (MP). They include an easy to use pre written letter that you can fill out and add your name to.

If you have faced the challenges of migraines, autoimmune conditions, or any other health struggles, and have relied on natural products, I kindly ask you to share this message.

I’ll include a link in my bio.

The biggest struggles for me on my migraine healing journey

Stress
I have really good coping strategies for stress and I have become resilient to unnecessary stress but sometimes life happens and there is just more than we can chew without experiencing stress

Eating enough
You would be surprised by the number of people who undereat. I personally find it hard to make time to cook and eat healthy meals when I am busy and have to be diligent to make sure I am not undereating, which is a serious migraine trigger. This is a hard one for me to admit as a health coach, but it's one of the personal challenges I am constantly working on and improving.

Working at a computer
I love my work, but often it entails working long hours at a screen. Let me know if you want me to share a post later on about how I create the most migraine-friendly office possible to reduce the negative effects of computer work for migraine and health.

Late events
Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day is my number 2 sleep foundation and is (almost) non-negotiable. However, sometimes there are really important things I want to do in my life where staying up a little later is worth it. But I know when I do this, there is a high chance I will get a migraine the next day. I working on continuing to build my resilience but if I've learned anything in the last 10 years it's that sleep is one of the biggest priorities for health and migraine support.

Do you rest?

And no I don't mean just watching tv or meditating.
I mean deep nourishing activities that are not work, not chores, and not self-care practices, and not endlessly scrolling on your phone.

I find it common to talk to clients who rarely spend time in other forms of more nourishing rest. They often feel like they don't have time for proper rest. And so rest looks like crashing on the sofa at the end of a long day.

This often happens because people feel that they have to keep going until there is nothing left in the tank. And thats when they can rest. Now that there is nothing left, all they have the energy for is to do something mindless such as rage scrolling or netflixing.

But what if you stopped before you had nothing left in the tank? What if you planned in active rest into your week?

And if rest isn't quite part of your repetoir at this point, you might even be thinking, what the heck is rest if not self care, or crashing on the sofa? I know, because I've been there.

But rest and recovery also includes things like:
- time spent being creative
- time spent socializing with loved ones you are comfortable with
- being in nature and taking long walks
- gardening
- sensory rest where we can rest from lights, screens, loud noises, such as in nature or a quiet bath
- moving your body in a non-exercise-based way like dancing
- physical rest such as curling up in a cozy spot and reading a good book
- alone time and rest from other people
- time spent letting our mind wander such as while watching a sunset

Do you find it hard to make time for rest? Does rest help to reduce your symptoms?

Social Connection

One of the biggest predictors of longevity, stress, and health is social connection.

Yet when we’re stressed seeing our friends and family can often be one of the first things to go. We feel too busy, and so we cancel, reschedule, or fail to reach out in the first place.

Research has indeed shown that areas with high numbers of centenarians also have high levels of social connection, indicating that staying connected with others is key to living a long and healthy life. Additionally, the health risks associated with loneliness are significant, with some studies even suggesting that it can be as harmful as smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.

Taking just five minutes to connect with a friend or family member can have a tremendous impact on your health and well-being. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate - simply reaching out to say hello or making plans to catch up can make a big difference.

So if you can do one small thing with a big impact on your health today, take 5 minutes right now to reach out to a friend or family member and connect or make plans with them for this week.

As a health coach, I focus on more than just exercise and nutrition. Although those are big and important topics my work also includes talking about things like optimizing your workspace, breathing techniques for different outcomes, nervous system work, posture and understanding alignment, lymphatic support, pain management techniques, herbal medicine and so much more.

My specialty is working with migraines and headaches. I’ve created my own supportive program for supporting migraineurs' unique needs. I know that when you’re dealing with migraines and headaches you might come up with big roadblocks and feel like you just can’t do things like other people. The program is proven to not only work within those challenges but also to help you build up your resilience. We look at not only identifying triggers but how to improve your resistance to triggers and identify any root causes! I also give you a tonne of helpful information about migraines and headaches so that you are empowered and understand them, and from there can make more informed decisions that support your health and migraines or headaches.

Clients who work with me usually experience significant reductions in migraine frequency, severity, and duration. But also a massive understanding of their migraines that helps them gain back control over their lives. Rather than feeling like they’re always at the mercy of the next random migraine attack.
