Day 5 Ruby and the Indigo Queen ….con’t

Ruby was silent, had nothing to say,
For the majesty took Ruby’s breath away.
The woman was regal; the gyphons fierce.
They glared at Ruby with eyes that pierced.

The radiant one spoke to the girl,
In a soft lilting voice her words unfurled,
“Don’t be afraid of what you will see,
For just as yet, you do not know me.”

Filled with fear Ruby froze like a stone,
As she watched the woman turn into a crone,
Old and wrinkled and hunched in two,
With gnarled up hands and a nose that grew.

This was the Indigo Queen’s disguise,
As she shifted shape to avert the eyes,
Of the hidden dream eater who made no sound,
Patiently waiting to bring Ruby down.

But the eater snuck in on Ruby’s fear,
Ready to whisper deep in her ear.
Ruby knew nothing of what was at hand.
She hadn’t a clue she was part of a plan.

Day 4 Ruby and the Indigo Queen…con’t

Indigo reins draped on their backs,
Let to a chariot golden and black.
The chariot opened; her mind was a spin.
No time to think –Ruby jumped in.

She grabbed the reins with a pounding heart,
An adventure she’d take in this golden cart.
Quick as a flash they left the shore,
The beach and the bird could be seen no more.

A mission they had, a mission was given,
They galloped on as if they were driven.
With frothing mouths they did not cease,
Towards a light that came from the East.

It streamed from heaven and lit the ground,
As it broke through clouds without a sound.
The light poured onto a jut of land,
Lighting a form that looked so grad.

Closer and closer and closer they drew,
Then stopped at the shore by a lady in blue.
She was flanked by gryphons, one on each side.
Their heads held high; their wings spread wide.

Day 3 Ruby and the Indigo Queen ... con't

Ruby slipped off and drifted away,
Fantasy’s better so here’s where I’ll stay.
I’ll just close my eyes and make it okay,
Maybe I’ll sing or star in a play.

But just as she seemed to get lost in her dream,
A sound caught her ear, like splashing it seemed.
Ruby perked up and looked all around.
Why, four white horses were making the sound.

She blinked her eyes to clear the doubt,
Horses on water — what’s this about?
But there they were with the wind in their manes,
Leaving a wake of silver-blue rain.

They came to a stop just to her left.
Their chests were heaving with rapid breath.
Muscles were taut and ready to race.
The horses, it seemed, had no time to waste.

Day 2: Ruby and the Indigo Queen

Meanwhile Down on Earth

Ruby sat on the shore watching a bird,
Seeing its plight she felt quite disturbed.
It ate stale chips, not seeds from the land,
From a crumpled-up bag left there on the sand

She shook her head, can’t people see?
Doesn’t it hurt them like it does me?
Don’t they care they’re polluting the lake?
And that skinny bird looks like a rake.

The dream eater whispered deep in her ear,
You’re far too small, you can’t help here.
Whatever, she sighed, drifting off in a dream,
One day I’ll be famous — maybe even a queen.

A love story...

The Indigo Queen

Day 1: Ruby & the Indigo Queen

High in the Heavens

A thick dark cloud covers the Earth.
There’s war and destruction, and little mirth.
Peace is rare in this land so green,
As an obscure presence moves almost unseen.

It lives in the mist and has some charm,
But with its force it does great harm.
For beauty and light this dream eater steals,
As it robs the humans of everything real.

But high in the heavens in a crystalline land,
A Queen and her council were given a plan.
Passed down to them from higher above,
It was time to awaken the power of Love.

They watched the Earth in their crystal ball,
“It’s time to choose; send out the call,
To the one sitting there by the edge of the lake,”
The Queen then added, “She’s nearly awake.”
