There was a time when clothes weren’t disposable
or ordered with a tap and dropped off the next day.

If a button came loose,
someone knew how to sew it back on.
If your jeans tore,
they weren’t thrown away — they were patched
with whatever fabric was around,
and you wore them with pride.

And if a dress needed shortening,
you stood perfectly still like a statue
while your mom or grandma
measured, pinned, tugged,
and hoped she didn’t poke you in the process. 😅

Back then, clothes carried stories.
Hand-me-downs came with memories.
The church dress.
The jeans that survived every tree you climbed.
The coat passed from one sibling to the next
until it almost held itself together on its own.

We lived in a time when things —
and people — were cared for.
We fixed instead of replacing.
We appreciated instead of complaining.

And somehow, that way of living
made everything feel a little more meaningful.

A blonde woman was driving about two hours outside of San Diego when she noticed a man waving her down on the side of the road. His truck had broken down, and as she pulled over, he approached her car.

"Are you heading to San Diego?" he asked.

"Sure am!" she replied. "Do you need a ride?"

"Not for me," the man said. "I'll be here fixing my truck for a while. But I have two chimpanzees in the back, and they need to get to the San Diego Zoo. They're already stressed, and I don’t want them stuck on the road all day. Would you mind taking them for me? I'll even give you $200 for the trouble."

"Of course!" the blonde said cheerfully.

The man helped secure the two chimpanzees in her back seat, made sure they were comfortable, and sent them on their way.

Several hours later, as he finally made it into San Diego, the truck driver was stunned by what he saw—there was the blonde, walking down the street, holding hands with the two chimps, while a crowd gathered around, laughing and snapping pictures.

Slamming on his brakes, he jumped out of his truck and ran up to her.

"What on earth are you doing?" he exclaimed. "I gave you $200 to take them to the zoo!"

"I did take them to the zoo," she said with a smile. "But we had some money left over, so now we're headed to SeaWorld!"

It's not over.

Regardless of what you've been through. Regardless of how tragic, how sad and how horrifying...it's not over.

You can take all the time you need to reflect on the current sentence, to ponder your circumstances, to grieve, to grow and to rest, but after pick the semicolon and continue with the remainder of your story.

It has not ended and while the semicolon might represent the break that nearly took you to your knees, never underestimate your power to finish your alternate ending strong, brave and powerful.

You define you; YOU are still here for a reason. ;
