We offer educational medical imaging resources to developing and underserved areas, while serving as a hub for exchanging information about outreach opportunities, partnering with other global health organizations, and facilitating on-site projects.

Last month, Dr. Dennis Dimond, a radiology resident from the University of British Columbia and executive member of the RGOP, presented at the Canadian Association of Radiologists’ Virtual Trainee Day (VTD).

The VTD is an annual event that focuses on a distinct clinical theme and blends expert-led lectures with interactive sessions designed to strengthen diagnostic abilities, expand clinical expertise, and support career growth.

Dr. Dimond’s presentation outlined the current activities of the RGOP and highlighted opportunities for other residency programs across Canada to participate in global radiology initiatives. The presentation was well-received and insightful, sparking interest amongst residents nationally.

We are proud of Dr. Dimond’s hard work and initiative in showcasing the importance of global health in radiology! 🌎🩻

Our RGOP residents and staff are at the Pacific Symposium in Suva, Fiji with Radiology Across Borders, supported by Siemens Healthineers.

They delivered presentations on pediatric radiology, participated in hands-on ultrasound workshops, and collaborated closely with the local radiology team.

Beyond the conference, there was plenty of time to explore Fiji’s beauty - shark diving included 🦈☀️

Big congratulations to Dr. Kieran Lacey, a radiology resident from Memorial University of Newfoundland and UBC RGOP alum on his recent publication in the journal Sonography. The article discusses the lessons learned from a conference held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2023.

UBC RGOP and Radiology Across Borders partnered on an MSK ultrasound workshop and radiology conference to support subspecialty imaging education in Indonesia. 🇮🇩🩻

Radiologists-in-training participated in hands-on ultrasound sessions and lectures, showing a significant boost in imaging confidence and skills. Highlights included interactive “Interesting Cases” discussions and a strong spirit of global collaboration. 🌍✨

🌺 The 2024 Pacific Symposium brought together radiologists, clinicians, techs, and trainees for interactive lectures and hands-on workshops in beautiful Suva, Fiji! 🇫🇯 Hosted at Fiji National University, this was the first year welcoming attendees from remote islands.

UBC residents Drs. Pierre Boerkoel & Dennis Dimond were in attendance, where they helped facilitate sessions and provide lectures. They also had the opportunity to explore Fiji and got to spend time with the locals!

This annual symposium is proudly co-hosted by UBC RGOP, Radiology Across Borders, and our incredible Fijian colleagues. Plans for this year’s symposium are underway, and is set to take place in October 2025! 🌍🩻
