Do not share or borrow prescription medications from others. Here are some reasons why:

📝Accurate record keeping. Obtaining medications outside of the pharmacy may lead to inaccurate medical records. It is important for health care providers to understand your full medication history in order to best help you.

💊May not be compatible with your other medications

✋Might not work and potentially delay you from seeing the doctor

🤢May cause unwanted side effects. Just because it’s safe for someone doesn’t mean you won’t get side effects

🤰May not be recommended for specific populations, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

🦠May not be effective. For example, if you have an infection and took an antibiotic from a friend, it might not work for the bug and potentially lead to antibiotic resistance

Dry eyes suck 😢 Having dry eye is more than just a mere symptom 👁 It is now seen as a disease process. Don’t ignore dry eye symptoms because if left untreated, they can lead to eye infections 🦠 and other complications. People can use lubricating eye drops to provide some temporary relief but not all eye drops are made equal 💧 Here are four tips:

1. Avoid decongestants. Typically they are found in products aimed to reduce redness in the eye. Using them for longer than a few days can lead to worsening of symptoms. Also, they are cautioned in those with high blood pressure.

2. Check the expiry date. Once opened, some eye drops will expire in 28 days so be sure to check the product information. Single-use vials may be better for infrequent users.

3. Choose preservative-free products. Preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride can damage the eyes especially with long-term and frequent use.

4. If you use contact lens, make sure that the eye drops are compatible with them. Sometimes, you may need to remove them and wait 15 minutes before re-inserting them back in.

Let us know if you have any questions!
