Birth doulas in B.C. are reporting increased anxiety among their third trimester clients as they grapple with the prospect of bringing new life into hospitals the public is being told to avoid for safety reasons.

Never a bad idea to familiarize yourself with infant choking procedures, especially post Halloween and near the holidays! Kidlets love putting things in their mouths and can quite easily have an obstructed airway. Back blows ftw !

Also editing to add that of course this is what unconditional support and love means in the hospital as well. We just happened to be in a home when this was taken. πŸ’•

This is what doula support looks like in the wee hours of morning in your own home. Where you feel most comfortable and safe. Where your toddler is sleeping and partner is getting much needed rest as well.
This moment was stealthily captured by the amazing midwife Nicole of South Shore Home Birth Midwifery as we both kept watch and held space for this magnificent person.
This moment was 30-60 seconds of rest in between strong surges, and anyone knows that when one contraction goes away, you let go and rest in between. And that’s what’s happening here.
Doulas will hold you in their hearts, hold your hands, and your throw up basin. It’s just what we do[la]. ❀️

On call life is no joke. Every social invitation sounds a lot like this : "I'll be there! Unless i'm at a birth"

We say it so often, that our friends and family finish the sentence for us because they already know what we are going to say!

You see, when we go on call, we commit to being there when you need us. We commit to 3am phone calls. We commit to being away from our families for often an unknown period of time. We commit to being close by. We commit to hours of physical support, til our muscles shake. We commit to being fully present, because that's what you deserve. We commit to hard discussions if they come up. We commit to supporting your choices, without judgement. We commit to you.

Love this! And I thought she looked lovely πŸ™ƒ
