If you’ve ever wondered what it means when your therapist glances at the clock, it’s usually not about rushing or losing interest.

It’s part of how we hold structure, safety, and care in the work — for you and for every client we support.

Therapy is most effective when it’s both relational and well-contained.

People-pleasing tendencies often come from learning early on that safety, connection, or belonging came from staying agreeable, helpful, or easy-going.

And while that strategy may have protected you once, it can quietly pull you away from yourself over time.

But honouring your needs doesn’t make you selfish, just as setting boundaries doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means you’re listening to yourself & prioritizing what you need.

If 2026 feels like a year you want to do things differently, you don’t have to navigate that shift alone. 🤗

Our therapists are here to support you in unlearning patterns that no longer serve you and building a stronger relationship with yourself.

Sharing them down here ⤵️

1. Take a slow, hot shower and imagine rinsing the emotional overwhelm off your body.

2. Hold something cold (this can help reset your nervous system).

3. Visualize boxing up your thoughts. You can come back to them later when you’re more grounded.

4. Say to yourself “this is hard, and I’m still safe.”

5. Put on a comfort show and get under a cozy, heavy blanket.

6. Get out for a walk or sit outside. Nature and fresh air can be surprisingly supportive on heavy days.

These small things will help make you feel even a little bit more grounded.

You don’t have to fix everything all at once, just support yourself in this moment the best way that you can. 💕

Save this to come back to when you need it and don’t forget to follow .ca for more!

If you’re feeling the emotional hangover of time spent with family over the holiday season, this one’s for you!

Even those who’ve done years of inner work and therapy can still feel triggered when they’re back in familiar family dynamics.

That’s because inside all of us are younger parts that learned how to stay connected, receive love, and keep the peace.

Noticing an old role resurface isn’t a setback, it’s actually a sign of the growth and self-awareness you’ve cultivated. 🩷
