Current status: Living the dream life in Mexico!

In 2017 I quit my promising career as a research scientist at the university of Victoria to focus on my booming nutrition coaching practice. That year I spent one month in Bali while continuing to run my online practice and generating revenue 😁

I had built my dream “job”: empowering people to eat better so they can feel, perform, and look their best for an optimal life experience while having time and location freedom for myself 🤩

Since, I had extended stays with my family in Montreal, spent another month away in Mexico after our wedding in 2019, and more short getaways, and still being of service to my clients 🙌🏼

There is something though that brings me back to the Baja California Sur peninsula. The climate is ideal to me: hot 🔥 and sunny ☀️ at all times but dry, sandy beaches 🏝 and cactus 🌵 everywhere, and the laid back vibe 🤘of a tropical location.

So earlier this year we jump on an opportunity to purchase a lot on the peninsula and build a vacation property 😍

People sometimes have a bit of confusion around the exact way I help get them from living with constant fatigue, uncontrollable sweets cravings, lack of focus, disrupted sleep, and unwanted weight gain to feeling energized, being productive, and leaning out!

My approach is really quite simple…

First I assess your current situation and ask specific questions about your sleep hygiene, exercise routine, energy levels, daily schedule, diet patterns, and body composition. I want to get to the root causes of why you ended up in this mess…

Next I present a plan to get from where you are to where you want to be with your energy, productivity, and physique. I see the logical sequence of habits that will help you to feel, perform, and look better!

And Finally I get you to follow my step-by-step process flexible dieting approach, combined with key nutrition and lifestyle habits and targeted natural supplements to take you from exhausted to energized, procrastination to productivity, feeling chubby to looking lean!

Just a little reminder…

If you are trying to lose weight and have tried all the diets under the sun without lasting success, one of the simplest things you can do is stop aiming to be perfect with your diet!

I know that may sound simplistic but when you aim to be strict with your diet, you set yourself up for failure. Inevitably you will desire your favorite treats, enjoy a guilt-free meal out at the restaurant, or join your girl friends for happy hour!!

Then you will feel down on yourself for cheating on your diet plan or not having kept your promises or no sweets/snacks/take-outs… and you will give up because you simply cannot follow through with your intentions perfectly. And so the cheat meal or day or weekend ends up bringing you back to your old sabotaging habits!?

With our clients inside the Gagné Formula, my signature high-performance energy and body composition optimization program, we promote being consistent with nutrition and lifestyle habits following the 80/20 rule: you stay consistent with your nutrition and lifestyle habits 80% of the time and allow 20% of divergence from the plan.

Being compliant to your diet prescription at a level above 80% means that, in a context of a week, up to 4 meals a week could be diverging from your good nutrition habits, or you would hit your macros and calories targets within range 6 out of 7 days of the week.

Remember… little changes in habits lead to big changes over time. This is especially important to remember when you don’t have it in you to make all kinds of big changes to your nutrition.

NOT dietitians?

A dietitian is an expert in identifying and treating disease-related malnutrition and in conducting medical nutrition therapy. Many work in hospitals and usually see specific patients where a nutritional assessment and intervention has been requested by a doctor or nurse.

This is NOT what a nutrition consultant, or nutritionist, do!

As a Certified Nutritional Counselor, I work with clients to improve their nutritional status by implementing healthy habits as well as optimizing their body composition by dialing their food intake.

I have many tools in my toolbox to help people change their food-related behaviors and achieve their goals, whether it is sport performance, weight loss, increased energy, balanced hormones, etc.

What the REAL problem is...

When I am working with clients I find there is often a disconnect between what they THINK the cause of their weight loss resistance is and what the real issue is.

Many of these ideas stem from old ideas and ways of doing things or just a simple misunderstanding about how the body responds to the environment or conditions they’ve been exposed to.

Some of these ideas are just ineffective, while others can actually make the problem WORSE so it’s important to understand what is true and what is not.

Here are the five most common misconceptions I hear regularly from high-achieving women who are trying to lose weight

# 1: They cut down calories instead of focusing on the macros & nutrient density of the food.
# 2: They engage in endless cardio sessions instead of increasing lean muscle mass.
# 3: They eliminate gluten instead of healing their gut.
# 4: They avoid carbs instead of choosing the right sources.
# 5: They spend more time in the gym instead of matching their energy needs.

Ok listen up!

You need to stop restricting calories because clearly it’s NOT working…

I GET why you think this is going to help with losing weight but it's not because it’s not getting to the root of the problem and it's just a temporary fix…

Instead you need a long term solution that will fix your metabolism and balance your hormones. And your body will settle into an ideal weight!!

So… let's take a step back and re-evaluate 🧐

What is your WHY?

WHY are you restricting your calories?

What is your end goal?

Feeling more confident in your body?

Being more mobile and active?

Improving your health?

Enjoying a long life?

If this is the case then a better idea would be to eat in energy balance and be consistent about your daily food intake! No more yo-yo dieting that results in a sluggish metabolism, out-of-whack hormones, and excess fat!

Doing this will boost your metabolism, balance your hormones, and increase your energy levels AND still allow you to lose weight without the all or nothing approach.

❕What people think VS. reality❕

Whenever people find out that I am now a nutrition coach, I know that their brain immediately goes to images of me making Pinterest worthy recipes and telling people to make complex meals so they can eat healthy and lose weight 💁‍♀️

The reality is, first, I don’t like cooking myself!? Shocking I know… But I am dedicated to eating complete, balanced, and nutritious meals most of the time and so I do make healthy meals!

And I also enjoy my (quasi-)nightly bowl of sea salt popcorn and I use a meal prep service for most of my lunches during the week…

As a nutrition coach, my aim is to empower our clients to eat healthier so they feel, look, and perform better! I don’t simply tell them what to do. I work my magic to drive our actions to take action and become in charge of their health and get back to the body they desire!

As the CEO, Chief Everything Officer 😉, of my nutrition practice, my day is also filled with responding to inquiry emails, messaging back and forth with prospects, creating content for my audience, troubleshooting tech issues, taking care of payments and bills, etc.

Soooo while I would love for you to think my eating habits are perfect and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen, it’s just not the reality 😌
