If winter has you feeling dry, restricted, irritated, blocked—start here. Small ritual. Big relief. Super potent.

Early Winter can increase Vāta — cold, dry, windy... We can feel this throughout the body, and often it expresses through the mind as feeling a little scattered, depleted or anxious.

In Ayurveda, Nasya is one of the simplest daily rituals with such a huge payoff: a couple of drops of oil in the nostrils to lubricate and protect the nasal passages and to steady the head, the mind and the senses. And it’s the perfect antidote to incoming pathogens & viruses! The nose is treated as a gateway in Ayurveda—what enters through it shapes how vibrant we are, how we breathe, what we think, how well we sleep, and how we come to perceive the world.

Uttarāyaṇa • Makara Saṅkrānti 🌞
Today is the threshold…

Makara Saṅkrānti is the moment the Sun is said to enter Makara (Capricorn), and it signals Uttarāyaṇa—the Sun’s “northward” movement: a six-month arc traditionally associated with the gradual return of light, radiance, clarity, and forward-moving energy.

In Ayurveda, we simply call this: seasonal intelligence ( ).
It is a moment to remember that the light always returns and triumphs, and that your body, mind, health, mood, LIFE are not separate from nature’s turnings.

So how do we meet this day with high intention—not just as a concept, but as medicine?

Honour The Blessing of Being

Some traditional Vedic Rituals that might inspire you during this time:

An early morning bathing ritual (often with abhyanga first), then clean, fresh, bright clothes.

🌅 Sūrya (Sun) reverence: offering water to the rising Sun, prayers/mantras in gratitude, or Surya Namaskara.

👏🏻 Dāna (charity): giving food, blankets, warm clothes, sesame/jaggery, or money—especially to elders, teachers, or those in need.

🍪 Sesame + jaggery foods (til + gur): eaten and shared as a seasonal, warming, grounding food for the approaching winter.

😇 Family blessings: visiting elders, exchanging sweets, making peace, and starting this next season “cleansed”.

🪔 Or you might simply take a prayerful moment, light a lamp, sit with an intention that can grow alongside the increasing light.

May this be a beautiful day and season ahead for this Earth and all Beings. May darkness, animosity, hatred and violence transform to light, compassion, love and peace. May it be so 🙏🏼

What a joyous, HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR here in Nepal after these 2 incredible days in our Ayurvedic Health Camp! 💜💛💖💚🧡

This has been a true testament to the blessings of generosity, service, care, and togetherness.

Over 2 days at Shanti Niketan School in Bhaktapur, RASA Ayurveda and Sri Devi Ma Ayurveda Health Center offered free health care to the community. Together with more than 20+ Ayurvedic volunteers we were able to see 400+ patients, the vast majority were children and their families.

The response was pure gratitude and shared joy. The kids were so full of life—curious, open, and eager to receive support. We’ve tried to capture a little of that spirit to share from afar: the smiles, laughter, and shared hearts.

Through the gift of so many of your donations, we not only had enough to offer the camp itself, but we raised more than we imagined and these funds will now carry through to support ongoing follow-up care for the children and families who need it most.

From our full hearts: THANK YOU. What a blessing to celebrate the New Year with such hope, help and healing. ❤️‍🩹🙏🏼

✨ Gift for Good - Support our Ayurvedic Health Camp in Nepal ✨

This holiday season, I’m writing to you from Nepal with a very full and humbled heart, and an invitation for you, our community, to join me in a small, very real act of generosity and care.

As some of you know, I’m currently in Nepal, assisting and interning at a wonderful Ayurvedic clinic that serves local people who often have very limited access to consistent treatment or medicine. Being here is a deep learning for me on every level.

Day after day, I meet people who live with very little by many of our standards, and yet there is a quiet contentment and radiant dignity that shines through their hearts. It’s humbling to witness and to learn from this sacred land and its people.

I feel deeply honoured that Dr. Sarita Shrestha and her whole team of incredible doctors have welcomed me into the clinic and their community with such open hearts. This fundraiser is just such a tiny way of giving back to this community.

Some years ago, a vision was quietly taking root — the seed of what would become our Ayurvedic Health Counsellor Program. 🌱

It was born from a profound longing of so many individuals that have come over the years to both myself (.nicholson.smith) & Dr. Abilash Anand () requesting to deepen their studies in Ayurveda in its full intention — as a path for freedom and as a wisdom for living in accordance with the Now.

We held it gently, like a tiny seed, nurturing it through the years… waiting for the right soil, the right season, the right moment to water it with love. ✨

And now, 2 months into our very first AHC Program, it is remarkable to witness what has bloomed — the impact, the gratitude, the growth, and the deep love for Ayurveda blossoming in this sangha. The richness of the teachings, imparted by such an incredible faculty, is truly so inspiring to see. What a humbling gift to share this blessing that is Ayurveda to those committed to heartfully bringing it to their communities 💛

We’ve been a little quiet here lately… but only because something incredibly meaningful has been brewing behind the scenes.

✨ After years of listening, envisioning and deep preparation—we are beyond honored to finally open registration for our first AHC (Ayurvedic Health Counsellor) Program, beginning this July! ✨

Many of you have asked for this. And we’ve waited until the moment felt truly right. That moment is now.

This program is rooted in the classical wisdom of Ayurveda—honoring its rich Vedic lineage and profound spiritual heart—while also being intentionally crafted for our current context in the West, especially here in Canada.

Our extraordinary faculty of Vaidyas, Yoga Acharyas, and Ayurvedic Practitioners will guide you not only in learning but in embodying this knowledge. And our deep commitment to educational mentoring and professional development ensures you’ll be held, guided, and prepared to serve from a place of true depth and integrity.

This is a path of self-discovery, deep practice, and meaningful contribution—for those who feel called to be of service through Ayurveda.

Over the years, RASA Ayurveda may have been known to many as a beautiful apothecary. But at our core—and increasingly in recent years—our true dharma is education and clinical healing. This program is the culmination of that focus and devotion.
