The Brooklin Optimist Club is a service club established in Brooklin for over 30 years. The Club's mandate is to help young people in our community flourish.

Brooklin Catalyst is new a pilot program acting as a business incubator for youths. As we emerge from covid restrictions, the Club is launching a new scheme aimed at helping young entrepreneurs in Brooklin. There are many young people establishing and running their own businesses and the scheme will give them the opportunity to benefit from advice from more established and experienced business owners. If you are interested in learning more, please message us so we can give you more details about the upcoming sessions in April and May!

Brooklin is such a wonderful community and tomorrow local school Wi******er Public School - DDSB is having their second annual Wi******er Fall Funfair is not to be missed! The weather will be perfect so come on out to have fun and support our local community. Over 70 local businesses including lots of school kids setting up a a Youth vendor, including our program alumnus Ollie from Love Space and youth mentor Graeme from Double U Designs🌟

Durham’s Got Talent 📣

We had the honours to be a part of the 5th Annual Durham Region Children's Business Fair that was held at Grass Park in Brooklin this past weekend. So much talent and energy were shown by these 30 young entrepreneurs including our own Brooklin Catalyst Alumni Isabella (IG’s Cute Crafts) and Ollie (Love Space) 🙌🏼

Norma did an incredible job organizing this event and giving local youths a place to showcase their work, setup their shop and interact with customers for the day. Of course, our amazing Elizabeth Roy Mayor was also there providing support and encouragement to all youths!

Talk about supporting youth entrepreneurship and you can’t miss the biggest fair in Durham region. This Sunday, September 8, 2024 is the 5th annual Durham Region Children's Business Fair where over 30 young entrepreneurs will setup their business tables to showcase and sell their handmade and designed products and services.

Returning to Brooklin at the Grass Park, admission is FREE with parking available close by. Come on out with family and friends and have a fun day shopping and meet the kiddos!

📣 Bravo Junior Makers!

This past weekend Parkwood Estate National Historic Site held its annual Spring Fest Vendor Market. In addition to the 60+ local Makers, they also have a dedicated area featuring 8 junior entrepreneurs under the Arbour “Emerging Talent”. It was incredible to see their creativity and talent and dedication at such a young age. Bravo 🙌🏼

We are always happy to see local markets and events that support Young Entrepreneurs! Each year, Parkwood Estate National Historic Site hosts a Fall and Spring Fest Vendor Market with a dedicated youth area as well.

This year, our Brooklin Catalyst alumnus Love Space and junior program mentor Double U Designs will be a participating Junior vendor , so please do visit them under the Arbour this Saturday.

📣 A big shoutout to Brooklin junior entrepreneur Graeme Walker of Double U Designs!

One of the key highlights from our April Kids Startup Workshops at Wi******er Public School - DDSB was having Graeme as a peer mentor and also as our guest presenter. He shared his entrepreneurial journey with the students in class and made a video showing us how 3D Printing works. He also generously gifted all the students and teachers a custom made Brooklin Catalyst keychain.

Graeme is a leading creative maker in Durham and we encourage you to follow his journey and check out his 3D printed creations!

🌟Durham Region Children’s Business Fair 🌟

Now in its 5th year and returning to Brooklin at the Grass Park, this event is part of the largest entrepreneurship initiative for kids in North America. This event will be held on Sunday September 8th, 2024 from 11 am to 2 pm.

Last year two of our Brooklin Catalyst Alumni participated as junior vendors and gain a lot of market experience as well as connecting with new customers.

It’s a wrap for our Spring Kids Startup Workshops! All of our young Catalysts did a phenomenal job presenting their business ideas on Demo Day at their school Wi******er Public School - DDSB in Brooklin. The top three ideas were selected based on their overall business plan, marketing and presentation as follows:

🌟First Place - Giddy Up Book Shoppe
🌟Second Place - IG’s Craft
🌟Third Place - Catify

Special thanks to our guest judges, school principal Mrs. Shields, school teacher Mrs. Letts, Club executive Mr. Wick, our mentors Bev, Melissa and Bonnie, high school students Will and Annie, and local junior entrepreneurs Graeme (Double U Designs) and Ollie (Love Space)!

All participants received a Thank You card, Certificate of Awesomeness, and gift vouchers to our local Tip Top Creamery in Brooklin. Top Level prizes included $50-$100 expense reimbursements courtesy of Optimist Club of Brooklin.
