I failed my comprehensive exam.
The comprehensive exam is meant to test your knowledge from the entire first year, and not passing this exam means you cannot proceed to clerkship. So, hearing this news after passing the rest of my exams was so disappointing and honestly scary.
I felt like a failure like I did not belong in this space, and I cried so much (more like sobbing 😭). However, my program was very supportive and reminded me that not only was this examination not a true testament to my knowledge and worth, but I could also remediate this test.
I was also so sad that most of my vacation would be spent worrying about my remediation. But my program, amazing friends, family, and partner reminded me that I could still enjoy my time off and that they were confident in my abilities to pass this time around!
With their support, mentorship, and some work, I'm happy to say I have now OFFICIALLY completed my first year of PA school 🎉!
Please let this be a reminder that there can be missteps in this journey, but perseverance and resilience will help you continue 👣!
