As we say goodbye to 2024 we remember the good things and the challenging things that taught us about ourselves.

New Year's resolutions for me always seemed to be so possible on January 1st and so not possible by the end of January. Now mine are very simple: Live the best life I can and Never stop being open to new possibilities.

Hope you all have a wonderful 2025 filled with possibilities for healing, learning, and new opportunities.

Spring has sprung on Treaty One land in Winnipeg. The sun is wonderful to feel on my face and body as I soak it in. Lots of ice as the snow melts by day and freezes at night. That is the nature of this changing season as the Earth changes from winter into the new growth of spring.

Recently I signed up for a Weight and Metabolism course through Energetic Explorations. Weight has always been a struggle for me. I lose weight only to regain it when I stop 'dieting'. Sometimes I even put on more weight. This struggle has been ongoing since my late teens. I have tried anything that I thought would work....fad diets, calorie counting, online dieting programs, gummy bears, butter coffee, and many more. So far all have worked for the short term but not the long term.

With the Weight and Metabolism course I am feeling like I may actually be making some positive and life long changes. This course deals with our emotions (e.g.: resentment), stress (physical, emotional and mental), and so much more using techniques from Body Talk. For the first time in my life I am not dieting....I am changing how I think and feel about food.

As the new year begins each year questions come from people you know and those you may not. Questions like: What are your goals for 202(4)? What are your New Year's resolutions?

Well, what if you don't have any New Year's resolutions or set goals? What if the most amazing thing you can do is to meet each day's challenges with the best that you are? That is Good Enough and just right for where you are now.

Goals and moving towards all the things we need and want in life are good things to have but not just once a year or because others expect us to have them. Goals should be about us and what we think would better us.

Pressure from all aspects of our lives - work and/or school, family, friends, ourselves - can all add up to incredible pressure to be better than what we or others perceive as flaws in who we are. But, this being better or perfection is just one view. If we look at ourselves from another perspective perhaps we would see something totally different.

So to all of us who are not perfect, which is a good thing as perfection is highly overrated, thank you for bringing you to each day in your own special way.

It has been a long time since I posted and I apologize for that decision. Many things have happened in the year 2023 that have kept me in a place that has been more introspective than outward reaching. I believe stepping away for a bit to take care of me was extremely important to my healing journey.

All of you reading this post will be able to identify with either losing someone you love or serious health problems or both. This past year I have had both. The loss of my son due to cancer at the end of January and then major surgery in June.

So what have I done to walk in a healing journey? I have kept my immediate family close and important friends close as well. I have shared and worked in community finding that many people helped to share my burden. I also had regular BodyTalk sessions which helped to move my emotions and grief from getting stuck in my body to being moved out and away.

Healing is a process. Healing starts with one tiny step; asking for help/telling your story. I continue to do this healing work one tiny step at a time.

I hope all who read this post find comfort that you are not alone. You just need to take the first step. Message or email me is I can help.

Looking in the mirror goes so much deeper than our physical appearance. I used to say, 'No matter what I do or the decisions I make in life, I need to be good with me when I look in the mirror'.

A family member lent me a poetry book written by Laurie Fischer and published in his book "Musings on a LIfe Well Lived". I suspect he just did not want it anymore after having it on his self for over a year and it was still in pristine condition. But, sometimes what others don't want can become gems to someone else. So, I began to flip through the book and came across the following poem. So powerful and so I thought I would share.

The Image in the Mirror

Can we look in the mirror
Appreciate, like, and fully understand
The image staring back at us?
Or do we quickly glance away, averting our eyes,
Afraid to look directly at the image with confidence?
Unclear and uncertain, what they think
Of our actions, out thoughts, our lives?

Suddenly, realizing we are one and the same,
If we can not look confidently at the image in the mirror
The time has come to make changes
In how we live out lives.
We need to strive to completely comprehend
Who we are and what we stand for.

Before we can be at ease with the world around us
We must be at ease with the image in the mirror.
Before we can empathize with others,
We must empathize with the image in the mirror.
Before we can understand other lives,
We must understand the image in the mirror.
Before we can love those around us,
We must love the image in the mirror.

Once we are able to look
At the image in the mirror
With love, pride and understanding,
Only then, will we be able
To live our lives to the fullest.

Finally, at the end of the road,
As the sun sets,
When the time has come
For our journey to be completed.
We will be able to look back
Fully acknowledging and appreciating
Who we were and what we lived for.
Knowing we have lived a life worth living
Both for ourselves and for so many others
Who shared our journey.

Today is 'one of those days'. Days when you look at a blank post and it says, "What's on you mind?" and you don't have an answer. Or you have spelt a simple word 1000s of times and today you can not spell it correctly.

A day when someone may ask you, "How are you doing?" and you answer, "Fine" or "Okay" or "Good". Not a word that really describes how exactly you are doing. Sometimes putting into words how you are really doing is just too difficult to articulate.

A day when your mind is remembering all the crappy untruths that you have been told about yourself and you are believing these words. Perhaps it feels like you have taken a huge step backwards in your healing journey.

What if you are just having a bad day? What if it really does not matter whether or not you can spell that simple word today or saying 'I am fine' is all that you can manage for now. Sometimes we just need to cut ourselves some slack. You may want to try doing something that will re-balance yourself! Like some time with just you, or reframing those hurtful things into a positive or maybe spend time with an understanding friend.
