one of my favorite things about doing support work with other Autistic people is the freedom i feel to be myself. i know that no one is coming to me with the expectation that i appear as something other than what i am - Autistic. in other professional settings, i feel a lot of pressure to appear 'professional' which is a set of specific expectations that changes relationship to relationship and context to context and is almost never made explicit, thereby being very hard to adhere to. when i am supporting other Autistic people, i feel pressure to *be* professional (usually mostly from myself because professionalism is important) - but in a way that doesn't minimize my Autism or, for example, ask me not to stim or ask me to always keep a level tone of voice, or ask me not to be clear about it when i dont understand a social cue. im still figuring out how to have professional boundaries, but doing it while working with other Autistics makes it a lot less scary.

a testimonial from a former client:
'I recently got diagnosed with ADHD and have been questioning if am Autistic over the past two years. I met with Daimhín for around two hours. They were thorough, thoughtful, and considerate as they listened to me and provided detailed responses to my questions. They helped me understand what being Autistic means and provided me with helpful re-framing of concepts that validated my experiences. This came through psychoeducation as well as Daimhín sharing some of her personal experiences as an Autistic person. She was clear on the timing and rates of their services, offering a sliding scale amount, which was greatly appreciated. I felt well supported before, during and after my session with Daimhín. They provided me with a wealth of information, resources, and advice on how I can support myself as I learn more about neurodiversity within myself. I’m excited to see where my journey of understanding myself leads, and am grateful to Daimhin for providing me with insights, resources and strategies I need. I would strongly recommend Daimhín’s services for anyone who is Autistic, considering if they are Autistic, have people in their life who are Autistic, or simply want to learn more about Autism.' --J

hi! this is my first time trying to advertise my Autism support services via facebook. im not very good at advertising (because of the Autism).

here's some more information about me and what i do:

i am an Autistic adult offering 1:1 peer support to other Autistic adults (and potentially Autistic adults, you don't need to have a formal diagnosis for me to work with you) and support to Autistic children and adults and their families and caregivers (sometimes just their families!).

i usually end up spending a fair bit of time assessing what my clients already know about Autism. i have yet to have a client whose entire knowledge of Autism is entirely accurate and Autism accepting, so part of that time is (so far always) spent giving them more accurate and more accepting information about Autism. with adults, clients usually come to me with some specific thing(s) that they are seeking support with - everything from diagnosis (formal and self), social stuff, communication, stimming and sensory strategies, to self-injurious behaviours, executive function, eating, bathing, and time management. ill usually discuss it with them and suggest to them some strategies, or just hear them out and express understanding. with families and children, i usually meet with the parents/caregivers first, sometimes a few times, then will spend some time hanging out the kid and give some reflections to their family. sometimes i just hang out with the kid and play lego or watch their favorite show and thats the whole thing. ill give 1:1 support to the family too, if they need/want it, and often give them strategies for what they might be struggling with or see their child struggling with.

everything i do is based on principles of mutual aid; my base rates for individual adults is $50/hour, and $70/hour for sessions with more than one person or for families or children. however - my value of mutual aid means that this is a pay-what-you-can, sliding scale sort of situation. so if you all that you can pay is $10/hour, thats fine, or all that you can do for compensation is give me a ride home or some lunch at the end of the session or help me clean stuff sometimes, etc etc etc, that's fine too. sessions range from 30minutes to 2hours, usually being around 90minutes; unless a client specifically tells me not to, i usually book 2 hours in my schedule for each session, regardless of whether or not we end up using the whole time, because it often sucks to feel rushed.

if you have any questions about what i do or you're interested in booking a session with me, you can send an email to daimhinorinn (at) gmail (dot) com . i will not respond to dms here!

thanks for your time and i hope i can be a support to you and/or your family : )
