Mario Lamontagne, PhD
Dr. Lamontagne earned his PhD in biomedical engineering from the École Polytechnique at the University of Montreal. He is professor emeritus of biomechanics at the School of Human Kinetics, University of Ottawa, with cross-appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Surgery (Faculty of Medicine).
Dr. Lamontagne is a recognized leader in biomechanics and orthopaedics. He is one of 100 members of The Hip Society, a fellow of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport
(ISBS) and the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies (ICORS), and a past president of the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS).
His research focuses on biomedical sciences and biomechanics, with expertise in musculoskeletal modeling of joints, prosthetic and orthotic design, injury prevention, and neuromuscular adaptation. Over his career, he has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and presented over 400 conference papers.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Lamontagne secured continuous research funding from NSERC and CIHR, leading major programs on pathological hip and knee joint mechanics. His work earned international recognition, including the 2018 Kappa Delta Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award (ORS) and the Michael Freeman Award (EFORT).
Though retired, Dr. Lamontagne remains active in research. His current CIHR-funded project investigates the causes of hip pain in young adults with cam-type femoroacetabular impingement. He is also advancing research on total knee replacement implants, applying 3D motion analysis and musculoskeletal modeling to study mobility and function.
The objective of this presentation is to explain the main causes of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) and to describe how femoroacetabular deformities affect patients’ movement and biomechanics. Following this session, participants will be able to identify the leading causes of FAIS and recognize the impact of these deformities on patient function.

She has experience working with both private and insurance-based clients and navigating the administrative and business side of care. She shares insights from her own experience and practical strategies to support patients and manage professional challenges. Her goal is to help emerging kinesiologists reflect on and prepare for the realities of practice.
In this conference, Justine presents “Beyond the Degree: Real-World Lessons in Kinesiology”
