How to get involved

Main steps of the process

Register your hub on blood4all.org
Contact a local blood bank/center or NGO that works on blood donation in your city. Tell them about the project, and ask them the basic requirements to hold a day, or blood drive
Find a suitable venue (that meets the basic requirements outlined by the blood bank/center). Once the venue and date are booked, invite your friends and your community! Before, during and after the blood drive, spread the word! Social networks are key to making the most out of it. Process: full description

Step 1: Organize a day

Contact the nearest blood bank or blood donation center in your city/municipality
Once the blood donation center is contacted, a representative (sometimes called: promoter, recruiter, social worker) is usually assigned to help the person organizing the blood drive in planning a successful blood drive. Mutual goals for the drive will be established, based on the size of the group, and how many people will likely participate and potential blood donors. A date and time for the day will be set, and an appropriate site will be selected. Start promoting it among your community (friends, relatives, co-workers)

Key aspects & tips:

Visit the potential site with the Coordinator or person in charge to make sure that if meets the basic requirements. Have planning meetings with the blood center to make sure all the details are covered. Make sure that tasks are designated, and schedule regular reminders
Choose a location that is convenient for your group of donors. Discuss traffic flow, space requirements, restroom access, temperature, and lighting. Typically, the blood drives are scheduled for 4-6 hours
Set a goal: consider the number of people in your group and discuss a clear goal
Advertise! Use Flyers, posters, social networks, email, etc. Some ideas include organizing teams or offering rewards for certain achievements. Also, it is important to consider it as a “celebration”, therefore it is important to consider other aspects such as festivals, cultural, music or food events, etc. Schedule appointments. If possible, allow people to arrange blood donation appointments, so the process during the blood drive is faster. When the date is closer, remind potential donors of their scheduled times. Step 2: during the day

Double-check that the room and designated spaces are open and ready. Keep in touch with the donor centre staff and interact with the potential blood donors and their friends and family members, making them feel comfortable and welcomed. Make sure that the potential donors have had adequate fluids and have eaten (check the food requirements) prior to donating. Record, film, take photos, and make sure that the blood donors share their blood donation story. If any potential blood donor has any question, refer them to the blood center staff. Do live streaming through social networks and invite all blood donors to be part of the global conversation (remind them about the hashtags, and social networks available). Constantly thank blood donors for their donation and support. Step 3: after the day

Let's measure impact! Follow up with the blood center to know the results ( # of people that participated, # of blood donors, etc). It is important to make sure to thank all the people who participated and that they get to know the results of the campaign. Complete the Impact Assessment: https://forms.gle/bQ5quEXahoJ2zpdU8
Submit your project on TopLink following the cross-hub collaboration guidelines and share with your community (Shapers, citizens, friends, blood donors, sponsors, partners, etc) the result in your location. Global Social Media Campaign

We invite all Global Shapers hubs to join us in a coordinated social media campaign to draw attention to and World Blood Donor Day, as well as highlight the importance of voluntary blood, plasma and platelets donation to support the global need in our local hospitals, especially in a world after COVID-19.
