It’s not about the food and it’s not about the gym.

If your body feels unsafe, it will hold on for dear life no matter what you try. And each time you’re on a diet, your body reverts back to survival mode because it no longer feels safe.

Safety — emotional, physical, nervous system safety — is what tells your body: “It’s okay to let go now.” That’s when weight loss becomes effortless.

Old wounds don’t just disappear like that, although we often wish they would. They live in your body, in our subconscious, in our brain. They show in how we feel, what we think about ourselves, how we sleep, and how be behave and act throughout the day.

And sometimes, food becomes your shield when the pain gets too loud. It becomes a way to cope, to stay safe, and to keep going.

You’re not broken. You’re just protecting yourself the only way you know how.
