CBCHS Strengthens SBC Monitoring Capacity in Ebolowa
Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services participated in a capacity-building session on monitoring and evaluation for its immunisation social and behaviour change activities in Ebolowa, held from 26 to 28 March. Led by PROVARESSC and financially supported by Mannion Daniels, the training aimed to strengthen the Full Portfolio Planning (FPP) Project by improving systems for tracking behavioural outcomes and enhancing data quality.
The sessions focused on practical tools to harmonise indicators, improve data collection methods, and strengthen reporting and feedback loops. Key gaps identified included poor data utilisation, inconsistent reporting, and limited alignment between SBC interventions and measurable outcomes.
For CBCHS, this training would enable it to strengthen its M&E systems to enhance decision-making, adapt interventions in real time, and deliver measurable behaviour change at scale across all its 22 health Districts under FPP.

CBCHS collaborates actively to advance the National Immunisation Strategy agenda.

Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services, represented by Fri Delphine Chifor, participated in a high-level Interagency Coordinating Committee meeting of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation, chaired by the Minister of Public Health, on March 13th. The session brought together government, technical, and funding partners to validate the 2025 performance report, adopt the 2026 work plan, and assess financing readiness.

Discussions highlighted measurable progress, including expanded service delivery, integration of gender-responsive approaches, and strong partner coordination. However, performance gaps persisted in 2025, with the Northwest and Littoral regions remaining below expected coverage thresholds, driven by insecurity, access constraints, and operational inefficiencies. Critical issues such as weak last-mile logistics, suboptimal HPV vaccine uptake, and low maternal tetanus coverage continue to limit impact.

CBCHS was specifically recognised for its role in sustaining immunisation services in fragile and conflict-affected settings, particularly in the Northwest and Southwest. As the country pushes toward a 90–92% coverage target by 2026, the emphasis is shifting to strengthening supply chains, scaling outreach, reaching hard-to-reach populations, and driving local ownership.
The meeting closed with a clear directive to deepen collaboration, optimise community health workforce capacity, and ensure no child is left behind.

HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a sexually transmitted virus that causes almost all cervical cancers and is also linked to a**l, vulvar, vaginal, pe**le and oropharyngeal cancers. In Cameroon, about 2,770 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, and nearly 1,787 die from it, among other HPV related cancers, which occur yearly.
HPV vaccination protects against the high-risk types responsible for most of these cancers and prevents them from developing.

Accurate data drives accountability and smarter decisions

This tool is central to capturing what we do in the field and helps to inform our programming.” With these words, the Technical Coordinator, Dr Epie Njume, set the tone as the Immunisation Program’s central team convened in its hall in Mvan, Yaoundé, on the 3rd of March to strengthen its data systems.

The meeting focused on reviewing and refining the program’s data-capturing tools to ensure they accurately reflect field realities and document the full scope of activities implemented across communities.

Particular attention was given to ensuring the tools comprehensively capture: All antigens administered to children, Integration of humanitarian services, Tracking of rumours and misinformation, and Community engagement efforts driving behaviour change and demand creation.

The session concluded with clear, actionable recommendations to refine the tool and standardise its use across. By strengthening its data systems, the Immunisation Program is reinforcing a core principle that evidence must lead action
