Shanghai International Model United Nations SHIMUN: MUN Conference hosted by Dulwich College Shanghai. The theme of this opening conference is Building Bridges to the World, the Dulwich motto.

The SHIMUN conference is a one-day simulation of the United Nations taking place on 25 April 2015 on the campus of Dulwich College Shanghai. We hope to be able to welcome delegates from schools around Shanghai to this opening conference, representing UN member states in 4 different forums: the General Assembly (GA), the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Security Council (SC), and the Human Rights Council (HRC). We will be limiting the size of each committee to 20 delegates in order to facilitate and encourage as much participation as possible. Participating students will be offered the opportunity to serve as committee Chairs as well as national delegates. Most of the chosen topics will address issues of the transfer of people, goods, ideas, finance and technology across a shrinking and globalizing world in the context of the widening global gaps between rich countries and poor countries, different social groups, countries at peace and countries in a state of war and between the affluent few who can take their personal security and basic necessities for granted compared to those denied even access to clean water, sanitation or the most basic education and health care. The goal of SHIMUN is to provide a venue in which students of diverse backgrounds can practice the skills of research, public speaking, teamwork, debate, negotiation and writing in a context of international mindedness, intercultural understanding and global engagement. We aim to create an environment for delegates to able to gain insight about the responsibilities of the United Nations, international relations, as well as the challenges of modern diplomacy. Additionally, the conference is an opportunity for students to meet others that share similarly unique perspectives, gain a greater understanding, and hopefully challenge their existing viewpoints about the world around them. We encourage all schools to register as we would be pleased to welcome a delegation from your school this coming April. If you have any additional questions please contact us through: shimun@dulwich-shanghai.cn Thank you for your interest in SHIMUN and we hope to see you at Dulwich!

I would like to once again thank all of you for building bridges and breaking boundaries with us. As I am graduating this year, I will not be able to run SHIMUN anymore. Founding this conference and working with all of you has been a truly memorable experience. Please continue to support SHIMUN and look forward to our next conference.
