What risks do your eyes face in winter? ❄️ Today, we’re focusing on those related to winter sports. Whether you’re heading out skiing, ice skating, snowboarding or sledging, high-quality sports goggles with UV protection should be an absolute must.

Many people still wear their regular prescription glasses for winter sports and that’s where we say: be careful! ☝️ There’s nothing worse than a glass shard in the eye. It can damage the eye’s structure, including the cornea, iris, lens and retina, and surgeries in such cases are often very complex.

A better option is wearing contact lenses, but even those can cause discomfort in winter due to cold air and dryness. That’s why we recommend investing in prescription sports goggles with UV protection, or even better, laser eye surgery. After the procedure, you can hit the slopes again within just a few days, wearing only standard sports goggles. 😎🎿

These eye care habits we're leaving in 2025! What about you? 👋😅

❌ Rubbing your eyes
It may bring short-term relief, but causes long-term trouble. Rubbing irritates the conjunctiva, worsens dry eye and can even lead to a stye.

❌ Wearing glasses bought online without an eye exam
Every eye is different. Incorrect prescription glasses can cause headaches, eye strain and poorer vision.

❌ Not removing eye make-up before bed
Leftover make-up in your lashes often means irritation, redness and tired eyes first thing in the morning.

❌ Sleeping in contact lenses
Not even “just for a while”. Your eyes don’t get enough oxygen and the risk of inflammation increases significantly.

❌ Removing eye make-up with wet wipes
A quick fix, but unnecessarily harsh on the eyes. They often just smear the make-up and strain the delicate skin around the eyes.

❌ Staring at your phone or computer without blinking
Dry, burning eyes are no coincidence. Blinking is essential. 😉

Wind is a great companion for walks in the fresh air, but it can also have some unwelcome side effects – especially for your eyes! 🌬️👁️

Strong wind can dry out your eyes, irritate them and cause redness, burning or even pain. If you spend a lot of time outdoors in windy weather, it may lead to conjunctival irritation, showing up as red or watery eyes. 😪 In extreme cases, wind can even worsen symptoms of dry eye or other eye conditions.

What can you do when wind starts to bother your eyes? 👇

1️⃣ Protect your eyes – sunglasses or protective glasses can help reduce direct contact with wind and dust.
2️⃣ Use artificial tears – these drops keep your eyes moisturised and help prevent dryness.
3️⃣ Avoid rubbing your eyes – even if they itch or burn, rubbing can make things worse.
4️⃣ Drink plenty of water – staying hydrated helps keep your eyes healthy.

If symptoms persist or worsen, it’s always a good idea to consult a specialist. Our clinic specialises in the prevention and treatment of eye conditions, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! 🌟

Don’t let the wind spoil your beautiful winter walks! 🌬️👁️💙

Are your glasses fogging up in winter? 👓 We know that frequent transitions from the cold into warm indoors can really test anyone’s patience, so we’ve prepared a few tips to help you deal with it. 😉

👍 Degrease your lenses with washing-up liquid. Apply a small amount to each lens and spread it with your finger. Leave it to sit for a moment, then rinse your glasses in a bowl of warm water with washing-up liquid. Finally, rinse them under warm running water and let them dry.
👍 Another popular home remedy is to rub a bar of soap onto the lenses. Simply coat the lenses, leave for a few minutes, and then polish with a dry cloth.
👍 You can also try special anti-fogging sprays or a hydrophobic coating that repels water, helping your glasses clear instantly.
👍 But if you’re looking for a permanent solution, take advantage of our more than 20% discount and undergo laser eye surgery with us! 😍

“I don’t think I could have received anything close to this level of care anywhere in the UK.” These words from our client, Ed Keating, truly made our day. 😊

Ed travelled to us for surgery on both eyes, and he described his stay in Prague as well as the entire process as a “fantastic experience.” 🙌 He appreciated not only the expertise of Dr Novák, but also the way he kept him calm throughout the procedure: “He told me what to expect, reassured me not to be nervous, and said I was in great hands.”

How does Ed evaluate the whole process, how quickly did his vision improve, and why does he believe he wouldn’t receive this level of care anywhere in the UK? 👀 You can read his full testimonial here 👇

🌙 Do you struggle to see at night? You might be experiencing night blindness! 👀
This condition makes it harder to see in dim light or darkness, especially when driving at night, in the rain, or fog. People with night blindness often find it difficult to move around in dark spaces, avoid obstacles or navigate safely, which can increase the risk of falls or accidents. 🤕

🧐 What causes it?
▪︎ Genetics – Some inherited retinal conditions can lead to poor night vision.
▪︎ Vitamin A deficiency – This vitamin plays a key role in healthy eyesight. Low levels can affect how well you see in low light.
▪︎ Cataracts – If your vision worsens in dim conditions, a cataract could be the reason.

🔦 How to spot it?
If you find it hard to see in the dark or while driving at night, don’t ignore it. Book an eye examination. We’ll help you find out what’s behind the issue and how to fix it.

💡 What can you do?
Don’t worry, acquired night blindness can often be treated. Make sure you’re getting enough vitamin A (carrots, spinach, liver), wear the right glasses or contact lenses, and in some cases, surgery such as cataract removal can help restore clear vision.

Did you know that diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in developed countries? 👁️ High blood sugar levels can affect the blood vessels in your eyes – causing temporary blurred vision, damage to the retina (diabetic retinopathy) or even cataracts.

What makes it tricky is that in the early stages, you might not notice any changes at all. Vision tends to deteriorate gradually, and by the time symptoms appear, it can be too late. 😔 That’s why it’s essential for people with diabetes to have an eye examination at least once a year, even if their sight seems perfectly fine.

👩‍⚕️ Do you or someone in your family have diabetes? Don’t wait for the first symptoms, an early eye check can save your sight.

📅 Book your preventive eye examination today and make sure your vision is healthy. We’re here to help you see the world clearly again 👇
