If you’ve ever felt stuck in the same cycle—starting every day with a plan to eat healthy, ending every night feeling over stuffed, frustrated and defeated—I want you to hear this:

Every eating experience, whether you see it as “good” or “bad,” is an opportunity to learn more about what you need to take better care of yourself.

Instead of getting angry at yourself for overeating, pause for a moment and ask yourself
💭 What can I learn from this?
💭 What is my body asking for?
💭 What do I need more of in my life? What do I need less of?

Overeating Isn’t a Failure—It’s a Message** 💭✨

What if overeating isn’t proof that you’re broken or lacking willpower—but a message from your body, asking you to listen, to nourish, and to care for yourself in a deeper way?

For so long, you may have believed that overeating was something to *fix*. That it was a sign of weakness, a lack of control, or something to feel ashamed of.

But what if it’s not?

What if your body is trying to tell you something?

✨ Maybe it’s asking for more nourishment—because restriction has left it running on empty.
✨ Maybe it’s craving comfort—because your emotions have been dismissed or ignored.

As we head into the holiday week, remember that you don’t have to be perfect to be worthy.

Dieting is harmful to your health.

Read that again.

Research shows that 35% of dieters will go on to develop disordered eating behaviour, more than one-third of these people will progress to develop a life-threatening eating disorder.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses.

When you see those incredible BEFORE and AFTER weight loss photos online, believe me when I tell you this is not the end of the story.

Ever wonder what happens to these women AFTER the "after" photo?

I can tell you because I work with these women daily. 95% of these women gain back the weight, plus more within 1-5 years.

Dieting teaches us to mistrust our bodies, erodes our self-confidence, and makes us feel confused about how we should really be eating.

If there are certain foods you feel out of control around, tell yourself you cannot have them, then sit back and watch what happens.

The more you restrict, the more you want it. It's human nature.

We want anything that retreats from us... this holds true for any object.

Remember your parents telling you you couldn't watch that adult-rated movie? That made you want to watch it even more.

Remember that person you had a crush on who didn't like you back?

Anything forbidden or off-limits is much more enticing to us.

Instead, learn how to listen to and trust your body.

You see, something interesting happens when you allow yourself full permission to enjoy ALL foods...even the ones you've tried to avoid or restrict in the past.

You will find that when you allow yourself full permission to enjoy these foods, the less you'll want them.

This principle applies to kids as well. When parents restrict certain foods, children will become fixated on these foods.

They may sneak them or overeat when given a chance. This is simply a consequence of food restriction.

The more ridiculous/scary/absurd this idea sounds to you, is a direct reflection of how your own (false) beliefs and fears may be holding you back from creating a healthier relationship with food and your body.

Trust your body and trust yourself. ❤️

I will never be a supermodel, and I think I am ok with that.

Did I ever dream of becoming a supermodel? No, not really.

Did I grow up devouring glossy teen magazines with Cindy Crawford, Claudia Sheffer and perfectly tanned pre-teens in bikinis that told me how to lose 10 lbs before prom night?

You bet I did!

Did I grow up watching almost every woman I knew (regardless of size) eat cabbage soup for days on end, drink slim fast shakes and commiserate about how much weight they'd gained, how flabby their arms were, or how big their butt was?

Sure did!

As I grow older, I am learning... slowly how to change the narrative about female bodies ...inside my own head.

I am not a supermodel, and you will never find me on the pages of Vogue, but I am a woman.

I have a voice and a responsibility to speak up for those who cannot.

Much like you, my Earth suit is not perfect.

It's changed a lot over the years.

It's got tears, some holes, and one spot in the back that's nearly worn through.

It looked a lot nicer before having kids...but I wouldn't trade those 2 munchkins for the world.

And so I am learning how to make peace with my body.

To speak more kindly to myself, to listen to my body when it says it's tired, hurt, hungry or needs rest.

I am learning how to look inward rather than outward to figure out what I need more of (and less of sometimes) in order to take better care of myself.
