🥩 The best cooking fat is basically free (and it’s not seed oil).

Ask your beef guy for fat trimmings. They often throw it out. Grass-finished is mandatory here. Then turn it into tallow with almost zero effort:

✅ How to render tallow (lazy + clean method):

Pack the slow cooker to the brim with fat (it shrinks).

Set to Auto/Low and let it go ~15–24 hours.

Flip/stir once midway so the top renders too.

Strain through a sieve/funnel into clean mason jars. They sterilize themselves.

Let it cool — it turns solid and seals when the lid pulls in.

From ~8 kg / 16 lb fat you’ll get about 2.5 liters of tallow. That’s months of frying.

🔥 High-heat stable. Cheap. No seed oils.
This is how you combat high butter prices.

🔥 Why High-Carb Diets Are a Problem for PKD

Your cyst cells aren’t just growing randomly — they’re addicted to glucose.

🍬 Here’s what happens:
The cells lining your cysts are stuck in a continuous growth mode, and their main fuel is glucose.
Meanwhile, your healthy cells can easily switch to burning fatty acids and ketones for energy.

🥑 So when you lower glucose (with a ketogenic or Bulletproof-style diet),
you starve the cysts while nourishing your healthy cells.

That means you’re not just “cutting carbs” — you’re pumping the brakes on cyst growth.

📣 New study shows gut changes in PKD as predicted

🔎 What the researchers did
They compared the gut microbiomes of ADPKD patients with healthy controls and measured the “waste” these microbes dump into the blood.
🧪 What they found (spoiler: exactly what I keep teaching people to avoid)
▪︎ Protective Bifidobacteria DOWN ⬇︎
▪︎ Protein-fermenting, toxin-generating bugs UP⬆︎
▪︎ Blood levels of indoxyl-sulfate, p-cresyl-sulfate, and endotoxin already high—before kidney function even drops.
▪︎ Worse gut flora = faster cyst expansion.
🧷 Why PKD patients should care
Endotoxin sneaks between „loose“ kidney cells in PKD and kicks off the “cell danger response” that stores toxins in cysts to help the body get rid of them.
More endotoxin = more cyst volume. I’ve said this for years.

One lone organic chicken sausage tagged in for bonus protein (although not ideal). Quick garden side (lettuce, carrot ribbons, cucumber, cherry tomato) splashed with EVOO, MCT + ACV and we’re done. PKD-friendly simplicity at its best.

One of the most powerful ways to reduce cyst and kidney volume that's getting talked about way too little is prolonged protein fasting. This is my result after 72h of protein fasting. 3.6 mmol/l ketones and 4.3 mmol/l glucose (77 mg/dl) that's a ratio, or GKI of 1.2, meaning 1.2x as much glucose in the blood as there are ketones. The third day is actually the easiest with only little hunger.

This is more effective than all the intermittent fasting or even single days of fasting per week, but it's more difficult, too.

The important thing is to use my protein fasting day calculator so you can eat exactly the right amount of calories, carbs, protein, fat needed for a day like this. Straight water fasting is not going to cut it, as we are striving to keep excretion of toxins through the gut going, which is only happening when there's movement.
