🥩 The best cooking fat is basically free (and it’s not seed oil).
Ask your beef guy for fat trimmings. They often throw it out. Grass-finished is mandatory here. Then turn it into tallow with almost zero effort:
✅ How to render tallow (lazy + clean method):
Pack the slow cooker to the brim with fat (it shrinks).
Set to Auto/Low and let it go ~15–24 hours.
Flip/stir once midway so the top renders too.
Strain through a sieve/funnel into clean mason jars. They sterilize themselves.
Let it cool — it turns solid and seals when the lid pulls in.
From ~8 kg / 16 lb fat you’ll get about 2.5 liters of tallow. That’s months of frying.
