During the past year the number of refugees arriving to Berlin has increased dramatically. Organizations and helpers were and still are struggling with the challenges that are brought about by the constantly rising number of refugees. To ensure appropriate treatment and medical care for the people that left their home to escape terror and war, we created IamWLCM. Starting off in Berlin as a student project, being deeply moved by the current situation, we decided to show our support and launch a fundraising campaign. We are selling a stylish winter beanie – the so-called refubeanie – in order to raise money to provide medical care to refugees. We are 100% non-profit, so all revenues exceeding our production cost will be directly donated to the organization “Medizin hilft Flüchtlinge” (Medicine helps Refugees). They will use the money to vaccinate non-registered refugees, who do not have access to medical treatment. Hence, the organization not only ensures the wellbeing of refugees, but also prevents any further risks of infections to the public. Why are we selling a beanie and not just collect donations? In addition to raising money, we also want to set an example for an open welcoming culture in Germany. The beanie shall be worn by helpers and refugees and represent a symbol of unity between these groups. We want to lower the separation and exclusion and show the world that we are one big community. So we are reaching out to you to buy a refubeanie - either for yourself or as a gift for the people who seek refuge in our community.
