🩸❤️ WE NEED YOUR HELP! ❤️🩸

It feels like a hot minute since GBT Berlin and while I’m just emerging from the madness of 6 weeks away, I’m already looking towards the future for GIRLS BLEED TECHNO and the journey that is still yet to come.

GBT Berlin was hailed a triumph by performers and ravers alike, bringing together a niche group of endo warriors, techno heads, friends and supporters from across Europe and New Zealand. It was the first international edition of GBT, the first event of its type in Berlin (where there are between 50-90 music gigs per day), and my first event as a promoter outside of New Zealand.

But it didn’t come without its challenges….language barriers, lost venues, lost packages, lineup changes, navigating personal hurdles for artists and myself, managing endo, and a very small budget, in a city with at least 3,000 paid DJs. 😳

Despite many hurdles, we had an amazing turnout, covered the 1000euro minimum spend, and walked away with a profit! Stoked! After expenses, I was excited about being able to donate a couple of hundred euro to endo charities.

You can imagine the disappointment when I receive the invoice and realise the ‘profit’ we’ve been quoted didn’t include any of the service and venue fees, so at 700euro total, we’ve walked away at a small loss. (Yes, a learning experience). Invoice attached for transparency.

A sideways step for GBT, but a helpful indicator that in order to keep this movement progressing and be able to not only break even, but feed the cause through charitable donations, we desperately need a sponsor. At the moment I do this all for free, in my own time, and mostly on my own (s/o to Nico & Dave particularly for all their help with putting this together), with this event taking months to organise.

Over summer, I’ll be hopping around events in Auckland selling the remaining GBT merch and some new exciting material to replenish some of these costs and donate to our trusted and supported charities, but what we need is some financial safety to continue the movement.

We’re looking for a local or international business who would honour us by supporting the GIRLS BLEED TECHNO movement to continue running events and empowering women who have been affected by endometriosis, either playing or raving in the name of a poison that continues to grow in our womanhood and our health systems.

Ideally, our sponsor would be:
🩸 Female and q***r friendly
🩸 Involved in an endo-friendly industry, ie. womens health products, non-alcoholic drinks, natural foods, Healthcare, fitness, and wellness brands
🩸 Could be involved in music/arts
🩸 An advocate for bold causes.

If you think you can help, or know someone who can, please get in touch! In the meantime, keep an eye out for opportunities to buy GBT merchandise over summer (exciting collaborations in the works…!) that COULD feature your business!

Thank you for reading this far and for your continued support ❤️I’m so excited to see what 2025 has to bring for GBT and the Endo Warriors out there showing up for Life.

With love,
Madame Sass x

…cont. from previous post 🩸

We ended the night with a full room of smiling faces and sweaty foreheads, with ravers coming from near and far, including one who flew in especially! (Gerri I love you!!).

I freaked out for the first couple of hours, thinking we wouldn’t meet the minimum spend, but in true Berlin fashion, the hoards showed up at midnight and sweated the place out. Not only did we meet the minimum spend, but we actually walked away with a small profit!! Apparently this is no easy feat in Berlin, particularly as a first-time promoter in the city.

This wouldn’t have happened without the help of some special people. Most of those who participated donated their time out of the goodness of their hearts and out of passion for the cause.
, Apnoe (.fischer and Weibke) - thank you for giving us the local Berlin flavour we so craved, especially so last minute from Apnoe.
Thank you and Darcy Taylor for making your way to Berlin of your own will and cost. I will be forever grateful ❤️
Thank you for coming to save the day when our venue pulled out. You were so amazingly professional and helpful throughout this process.
Thank you for your help with socials and Matthias for the photography (also stepping in last minute when the other photographer flaked..).
And a massive thank you to and Saskia for hosting and helping. I couldn’t have got here without you.
Shoutout to .versum for their support and amazing local network and for supplying our uterus earrings (we still have some of these for sale!).

All in all, a collosal THANK YOU to everyone who either danced, played, poured drinks, shared the event, or liked a post. This is more than just an event - this a movement to shed light on the bullsht that our Endo Warriors have to go through every day to get out of bed and move around a dance floor. We do this for them.
While we haven’t raised enough to effect global change (yet), we are sure enroute. I have the confidence to keep going and inspiring those who can effect change.

So…next stop, Australia! 🇦🇺

On Friday 9 August, the GIRLS BLEED TECHNO movement made its first international debut in the techno capital of the world, Berlin.
She made a racket, she stomped her feet, she opened her heart and soul, and she bloody well ROCKED IT! ❤️‍🔥

After months spent in the making...facilitating foreign connections, making bookings in another language, losing a venue, a DJ, and a photographer, entering the massive scene in Berlin as a completely unknown name....we're relieved to say that GBT was a success!!

Here's how it panned out, for those loyal followers on the other side of the world.

🩸Nico, representing both France and New Zealand, opened the night with a banging tech house set that buttered up the floor, blending his classic TH tunes with a Berlin techno influence.
🩸Baerbel followed up with a dynamic techno set that proved testament to her experience and reputation as one of Berlin's finest female DJs.
🩸Darcy Taylor, from the Heavenly Creatures performance collective (NZ), took the stage as a taboo representation of the coming-of-age school girl struggling to find acceptance through the confusion of puberty and sexuality (this was so hot! TOO hot for us to show you most of the imagery, unfortunately...🔥)
🩸Apnoe, a local duo from Berlin, brought us huge energy and a wide range of melodic and instrumental techno pieces that added some welcome variety to the often uninspiring hard techno sound you hear in Berlin.
🩸Lucy Lynch and Oli Mathiesen (NZ) performed an excerpt from their live production, The Butterfly Who Flew into the Rave, exploring the electric and deeply q***r-coded world of techno and rave culture which brought a highly symbolic energy to Apnoe's set.
🩸Madame Sass closed the night off with a high-energy blended set of both peak and melodic techno, portraying her love for her two homes; both Auckland and Berlin.

We ended the night with a full room of smiling faces and sweaty foreheads, with ravers coming from near and far, including one who flew in especially! (Gerri I love you!).
We freaked out for the first couple of hours, thinking we wouldn't meet the minimum spend, but in true Berlin fashion, the hoards showed up at midnight and sweated the place out.
Not only did we meet the minimum spend, but we actually walked away with a small profit!! Apparently this is no easy feat in Berlin, particularly as a first-time promoter in the city, so am really proud of what we achieved.

Ready to fire those boots up? Coz we gonna be stomping around Badehaus this Friday to make some bloody NOISE about Endo ❤️‍🔥

Coz, F*ck being the quiet one
F*ck being the girl who just takes it
F*ck being the submissive person who accepts a lack of diagnosis
F*ck being the one who puts up with being gaslit by the medical system
F*ck tolerating the doctors that ignore you
F*ck the patriarchal medical system that interprets your pain as mental
F*CK ENDO

Let's be brazenly, bravely, and passionately loud about the pain we endure, and the commitment we make to doing better. Let's think big, not subject to our minds to the small results we've been conditioned to expect in our lives.

This Friday, we commit. We commit to every Endo warrior, to every undiagnosed woman suffering in pain, to every girl who has not yet met the Endo cycle, and to techno for bringing us all together in passion and in peace.

We're only days away from GBT Berlin and are so excited to be hosting some incredibly talented performers, both behind the decks and on the stage.

It is our pleasure to announce the amazing Lucy Lynch, all the way from New Zealand.
Lucy is a versatile and accomplished multi disciplinary performer who started her professional dance career as a founding member of The New Zealand Dance Company. Lucy worked with the company for eight years, touring to the world's most prestigious dance festivals and dancing on some of the most iconic stages across the globe. Beyond her contributions to the world of contemporary dance, Lucy remains deeply involved in various aspects of the dance, burlesque and entertainment industry in Aotearoa. As one of the few professional dancers involved in both the contemporary and commercial dance scene, Lucy is passionate about finding ways we can merge these two worlds together and events like GBT is the perfect space for this collision to take place.

Lucy is a strong advocate for normalising all conversations around mental and physical health. While she has not directly suffered with Endo herself, she has suffered from severe anxiety and depression since she was young.

"For the majority of my life, my anxiety made me feel incredibly isolated. Everyone seemed so at ease with themselves, and here I was, SO uncomfortable in my body - to the point where I didn’t even have the courage to speak. The fact that I would thrive while performing on stage to the masses yet live my daily life in discomfort without words was always confusing for me. My symptoms of anxiety and depression became crippling, to the point where I couldn’t leave the house without being soaked in sweat and with my heart racing. It took many, mannnnny years of self work and a diagnosis to get to the point where I am now. It’s still a journey, and I have a long way to go, but I am grateful for the many conversations and open, non judgemental spaces that are around me. Honesty is so refreshing.

I am SO honoured to be a part of GIRLS BLEED TECHNO and any space that supports the voices of women....cont. in comments 🩸

GIRLS BLEED TECHNO is back! This time, we're venturing into the depths of Berlin, the epicentre of techno and all things fun.

**UPDATED VENUE & LINEUP***

On Friday 9 August, GBT will take over Badehaus, showcasing local and international artists who are passionate about music, equitable health care, and empowering the quiet voices that are silenced by Endometriosis.
There's no shying away here from the power of feminism.

This lineup is HUGE, bringing together the diversity of artists from New Zealand, Germany, and France.

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, Sub Sahara will no longer be able to join us 😢 we'll miss her presence greatly, but are lucky enough to have a local POWER duo to step in - Apnoe.

* Apnoe are a pair from Berlin ajoined to both the Endometriosis collective, Endoversum, and VAKANT events. They're going to bring us an enigmatic, high energy closing set, pushing the boundaries of conventional Berlin musical genres.
* Local powerhouse, Baerbel, is actively involved in the local Berlin techno scene and Endometriosis awareness. She brings a passionate local flavour and banging selection of fresh tunes.
* Madame Sass, the founder of GBT, hails from New Zealand but calls Berlin her second home.
* Nico, whose origins are from France, now calls himself a NZ'er and is a true advocate of the Endometriosis movement, representing the Endo Supporters out there. We wouldn't be where we are without them.

We'll also have performances by some of the most well accomplished dancers in the game:
* Lucy Lynch & Oli Matheson, from Auckland, NZ
* Darcy Taylor, from the Heavenly Creatures collective, also from NZ
All of these artists have overcome their own challenges in the worlds of physically straining performance work and maintaining healthy minds and healthy bodies, and it's a privilege to have them join us from the other side of the world 🌎

We can't wait to bring everyone together in the name of Endometriosis and support all the warriors out there fighting to be seen.
Because good health shouldn't be a privilege.

We are so close to the first international GIRLS BLEED TECHNO and are absolutely fizzing with excitement!

So much more still to announce! 🩸

Next on the lineup is devoted GBT supporter, Nico.
Nico is the only male featured on our lineup because we believe that showing homage to the supporters in our life (regardless of gender and sexual orientation) is just as important as supporting those who suffer from the condition.

This is his story...

"Before meeting my partner, known to you as Madame Sass, I used to know very little about endometriosis. But being with her now for more than 4 years, I see everyday how debilitating this condition is.

Being a man, I will never know exactly how it actually feels, but as her partner, I'm by her side when her endo flares up, when she needs a wheat bag or a massage, when she needs to go to the ER, or when she needs to laugh and smile when s**t gets too hard.

No one really hears about endo, and it seems that many people think it's just women making a fuss. I witness her pain every day, with all the consequences this has on her life. I've seen her go through several surgeries, countless medical appointments, and consult so many specialists in their field. Everyone thinks they have a solution, giving her hope that it will eventually go away. "You should take more painkillers, you should rest, you should stop stressing out, you should take hormones, you should get IV vitamin therapy, you should have babies, you should do this, you should do that"...but really, nothing actually works.

In France, where I'm from, endo is officially recognised as a long term chronic illness and therefore, treatment and time off work is funded. In NZ, you need a very understanding employer or you just don't get paid. So it's a double whammy - you don't get an income, you can't afford treatment, so really, unless you have incredibly caring friends, a close family or a partner to look after you, you're f*cked.

Baerbel brings our local firepower to GBT Berlin and we are so bloody lucky to have her on our lineup!

Baerbel is German born with Iranian roots and has been living in Berlin for 11 years. She’s a genre-bending, femme-promoting, stage-bouncing advocate for both *FLINTA in music and Endometriosis.

This is Baerbel ❤️‍🔥

For years, Baerbel was plagued by paralyzing, completely knock-out out pain associated with her menstrual cycle, which her gynecologist didn’t take seriously enough (shock…). The pain was so severe that she fell into a trance-like, fever-dream-like state. Depression, migraines, fatigue, susceptibility to infections, severe symptoms of infections, extreme exhaustion, bloating, water retention (up to 4kg), back pain, severe aching limbs, disrupted cycle…all became a part of her every day.

She finally had surgery which revealed a diagnosis of endometriosis + suspected adenomyosis (which can only be definitively diagnosed by removing the uterus).
Her uterus was fused to the surrounding tissue at the front and back. Her intestine was fused to her pelvis and her left o***y was hanging somewhere in between.
Since surgery, her pain has reduced but she still needs to maintain a gluten-free and anti-inflammatory diet to keep her symptoms at bay.

Making music is a universal remedy for Baerbel. It distracts and strengthens her. She has also learned to respect, appreciate and love her body more. Feeling comfortable in her body, being grateful for it and no longer letting people tell her how her body should look and function in order to be considered healthy helps her to deal with the illness. She has also had to learn to listen to her needs and not try to please everyone.

Direct from Baerbel…”Let’s smash patriarchy together! We could be much further ahead in treating endometriosis if we didn't live in a patriarchal, violent, profit-driven world that was created without our influence and in which the suffering of marginalized groups is considered inferior. Spread the word!”

Since the last GBT, I've been quietly working away in the background to make the most out of the donations raised in the last two events.

Thanks to you, we are stoked to have been able to donate $2,000 to each of our charities - Endometriosis NZ and Endo Warriors Aotearoa! These organisations are doing such important work in our community, either helping on a day by day basis to support endo warriors in their darkest and most painful times, or advocating for more research and better quality care.

Endo Warriors Aotearoa have put funds towards pre-surgery boxes, transport vouchers, and ready made meals for warriors facing surgery. Endometriosis New Zealand are using their funds to create workplace education programmes, and developing an advocacy plan for 2024/2025.

The second GBT raised $1,600 and we are really excited to finally announce that a venue has been secured for GBT Berlin on Friday 9 August!!
GIRLS BLEED TECHNO will take over Monarch / Paloma for 6 hours of techno, female empowerment, and love. Thanks to your donations, we have enough for the venue hire and a small amount of of local marketing.

At the first event, we were so kindly donated a beautiful hand-made hat from a friend of the community, some period cups, and uterus earrings from Endo Warriors Aotearoa, period-proof underwear from AWWA Period care which have been embroidered with GBT. I wasn't able to track down the raffle winner so have donated the items to a deserving home.

What we know, from research in New Zealand and abroad, is that minority ethnic groups receive 15-20% less time with doctors, make the least complaints, and are therefore significantly over-represented in most health statistics. Gynaecological and female oriented conditions are even worse.
Auckland Girls Grammar School is an all-girls school made up of 46% Pacific Island students, 24% Maori, 15% Asian and 8% European. These are the girls who will get less time with a doctor, gaslighted by the system, take longer for diagnosis, and amazingly, won't complain. I've heard some horrific stories from these groups, yet they receive the least air time.
All physical donations have been gifted to the school in the hope some of these girls won't bleed the same fate.

And the final DJ on our lineup is GIRLS BLEED TECHNO founder, Madame Sass.

Madame Sass has been busy since the last GBT, managing several projects and expanding her enterprise into fashion and the international music scene, all while managing chronic pain.

Here is her story:

__________________________________

Music has always been a central topic of my personal conversation with life. I was raised on house music and never missed an opportunity to dance on the coffee table.

Unfortunately, dancing (which, second to DJ'ing, is my biggest dopamine hit) has been difficult in the last few years as my health has taken a hit.
A few years ago, when sitting huddled up with my wheat bag in 9/10 pain at a festival, a friend said "imagine how much of a weapon you'd be if you weren't in pain". Well intended, but what felt like a punch in the gut.
Watching your friends throw their bodies around the dance floor while you sit on the sideline of life isn't easy.

I went 10 years undiagnosed then had to undergo two surgeries that removed stage 3 endo and deep infiltrating cysts on my bowel and bladder. It's been a long journey, and likely not yet over.
In the 6 months since my last surgery, a new cyst has already grown and it's unlikely these will stop occurring without a hysterectomy.

But I march on, as do thousands of other women in New Zealand!

On 1 July, I leave for Berlin to spend 6 weeks chasing the musical dream and spreading the GIRLS BLEED TECHNO movement. My goal is to organise another GBT in Berlin, then Melbourne.

To do this, I need your help! This Friday, come and support in the name of this important cause, to raise awareness and support for people suffering from endometriosis around the world.

Because good health shouldn't be a privilege.
