It’s been a strange few days here in the Lowveld. We’ve been dealing with devastating rains and floods which have now thankfully abated.

These kinds of events truly keep you present and focussed on the now.

Today we’re celebrating a return to the almost normal, even the mundane, like going for walkies on a cloudy morning.

I know I’m lucky and privileged to even be able to muse about this.

There was no imminent threat to life, the water came frighteningly close but the house stayed dry. We had food and water and even WiFi. We had a car to escape in and friends who had a bed ready. We’re the lucky ones. The only scars we bear are bags under our eyes and some mud to clear away.

We were surrounded by community - showing up with shovels, checking in, sharing meals, keeping roads cleared.

Today the river’s melody is more gentle again, I think she has had her say.

Today I’m able to make plans for tomorrow.

Today we’re sharing stories and memes.

Today I’m beyond grateful for the community I live in.

Today I know that normal is a privilege.

Today I know that normal can be the greatest gift.

it’s a new time.

the full moon in Cancer on 3 Jan asked us to become the best home for our soul.

the full moon in Leo on 1 Feb will shine a path to courageously carry the brightest version of us into the world.

in these transformative days between, the energies of the sun is shining balanced clarity on the feminine (Venus) and the masculine (Mars). all held by the steady push of Capricorn to make it real, to weave it into the very fabric of reality - to reach deep into our spirit and bring it to the light of day, as Saturn prepares for its final exit from Pisces into Aries.

it‘s finally time.
to be who you are deep down.
to go after the life your heart and soul deserve.
to listen to what your body tells you is aligned for you.
to be unapologetically you.

The drum is a crucial part of my shamanic work, it’s more than a mere tool; it has been crafted with great reverence and it’s the most precious companion.

In some indigenous traditions, the word for ‘drum’ is the same as the word for ‘horse’ as it is the drum that helps the practitioner enter the trance that brings them into other realms where healing or insight is gleaned.

It is very much a living part of the practice and very often part of a session with me, always evoking deep comfort in the client ✨

The solstice always offers us a shared moment to reflect on the light we carry and on the light we can choose to walk in - whether welcoming light back into our days or holding it within as it dims around us.

The solstice has also always been a celebration of community - of summer feasts and Yule nights, of remembering we are one with everything.
