What are our test stands actually used for?

Our test stands, such as the SSP-05, are very flexible in their usage. For example, they can test two materials under the influence of different forces, speeds and type of movement (linear, sinusoidal). In the first part of the video you can see a smooth, steady test with a low normal force.

Furthermore, as you can see in the second part, the SSP-05 can simulate real road profiles. For this, the excitation signal on different type of roads was recorded (e.g.: cobblestones, asphalt, etc.), so that we can simulate material wear of 5,000 km driven within one hour. In total, the test can also simulate a total distance of 100,000 km.

Another example of why we love our daily business: The owner complained about squeaking noises while driving, especially on rough roads. After an analysis, we were able to locate the critical spot and eliminate the root cause of the annoying noise. 🕵️‍♂️ Now there are no longer any noises hearable and driving became a great pleasure again.
This is a nice example of how quickly we find solutions to annoying noise, and how quickly we can improve customer satisfaction.
The owner of the vehicle was impressed and happy about our work!

Today, we're giving you a sneak peek into the exciting world of our daily work outside of Automotive. We recently examined a medical glucose monitor designed to be worn on the upper arm of diabetes patients. This innovative device produces a clear, feelable vibration when the insulin levels approach a critical level, alerting patients to take action.

Our team was tasked with optimizing the device during the development phase, determining which modifications would produce the strongest feelable vibrations and ensure patient safety. Using our high-end vibro-acoustic measurement system, ZoundLab, in combination with a triaxial accelerometer, we were able to conduct comparative measurements on different design ideas, ultimately finding the ideal version.

Problems with friction noise?

The KOREMA supports the rating of friction noise and can compare different materials with each other. The combination which sounds the most pleasant is defined as a benchmark. Thus, an acoustic fingerprint of the friction noise is generated, which can be used as a guide when assessing other materials.

What does this mean exactly?

Let's take the automotive industry as an example: Sitting in a car, you get in contact with many different materials – such as your trousers on the car seat, your hand on the steering wheel or the sleeve of your jacket on the central console. Friction between materials creates noises. These can be lower or louder and can also be perceived as pleasant or annoying.

This video shows our stick-slip test stand SSP-04. It was developed to measure the impact of various materials against each other. Our SSP-04 not only allows us to analyse the noise development and material abrasion, but also the coefficient of friction. Our customers benefit from the use of the test stand by avoiding problems caused by stick-slip, as these severely disturb the user's perception of quality. As a BSR (buzz, squeak and rattle) specialist, we offer you all services in the field of annoying noise analysis and elimination with our global unique test stands and our longstanding experience.
With our test stands, annoying noises can already be located and documented in early development phases and on material level. Furthermore, we are able to check the influence of external influencing factors, like temperature and humidity.

We describe shaker testing as the testing of components to detect critical and unwanted annoying noises. Those components can be full systems like IP´s or subsystems like displays or Radios. The annoying noises are caused by external excitation which are induced by different type of roads.
With the help of our shaker, different excitation profiles can be simulated so that we then analyze the generated noise. Afterwards, solutions are suggested to eliminate the critical areas to avoid any annoying noises.

With our material pair tests we measure the behaviour of two specific material samples in relation to each other. Our highly developed test stands friction the materials to each other with different forces in four different directions. Because most materials have different properties at different temperatures, we bring the materials in our climatic chamber to the required climatic condition. The influence of third substances, such as a coating between two plastics, can also be analysed using our testing technique.
