Did you know that MedCam-AI collaborates with partners in both the Netherlands and Germany to advance medical imaging technology? Supported by Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, we continue to develop and test our technologies, including the ThermoScope system.

Together with our research partners, including Radboudumc, Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis (JBZ), and Orthopädische Praxis Piusallee, we are exploring how thermography can help detect and understand pain. From diabetes-related complications like diabetic foot to other complex conditions, our technology aims to provide earlier and more accurate insights for better care.

A few weeks ago, we met in Kleve for the latest MedCam-AI partner event, hosted at Interreg Deutschland-Nederland. It was a full and inspiring day with colleagues from Máxima MC, Radboudumc, Physio Hassenpflug, Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, and MedCam-AI.

Can thermography help detect ACNES (Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome) earlier? That’s what we’re investigating in collaboration with Máxima Medisch Centrum (MMC).

ACNES is often misdiagnosed due to its complex nature. Our ongoing research focuses on using thermal imaging to detect subtle temperature differences that could indicate nerve entrapment, helping improve early diagnosis and treatment.

This study is part of the broader MedCam AI project, supported by Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, as we explore the future of AI-driven thermography in healthcare.

Earlier this month, the MedCam AI team, supported by Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, visited Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis to refine the technical setup of the ThermoScope system. Together with our research partners from Radboudumc, we explored how ThermoScope can contribute to the management of diabetic foot care, focusing on ensuring patient comfort while maintaining high measurement accuracy.

Recently our MedCam AI team, supported by Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, had a productive visit to Maxima Medical Center in Eindhoven. The discussions centered on the challenges of diagnosing ACNES, a condition marked by chronic abdominal neuropathic pain. The current diagnostic methods, which rely heavily on subjective assessments such as pain history and physical examinations, are limited in their effectiveness.

Dr. Rudi Roumen, Tom ten Have & Tareq Naddaf highlighted the potential benefits of incorporating thermography into the pre-diagnostic process. Thermography could provide a visual representation of temperature anomalies caused by underlying nerve damage, offering a more objective diagnostic tool that could significantly improve the accuracy of ACNES diagnoses. Last Friday, the MedCam AI team, supported by Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, gathered at Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis to discuss the next steps in advancing the ThermoScope system. Together with our research partners from Radboudumc (Matthieu Rutten, Janneke Lukkezen & Nils Hendrix) we reviewed plans for validating ThermoScope.

Discussions focused on patient comfort, improving system accuracy, and refining measurement set-ups. With measurements set to begin in February, we’re making great strides toward a stable, efficient design. A promising step forward for MedCam AI!
