As some of you already know, fashion history - and fashion and style in generalโ€”are among my hobbies. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ So, Iโ€™d been wanting to visit the Fashion Museum in Riga for quite some time, and it was actually my main reason for going to Riga (which, by the way, turned out to offer so much more).

Right now, thereโ€™s an exhibition dedicated to Art Deco style, featuring some truly fascinating pieces by Coco Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin, Elsa Schiaparelli (one of my favorite couturiers), Jean Patou, and others.

OMG, do I love the details and the delicate craftsmanship in these pieces of art (because honestly, I canโ€™t call them anything else).๐Ÿ˜

Personally, I wouldnโ€™t wear most of themโ€”they feel quite overpowering, like the dress is wearing me, not the other way around. And in my opinion, clothes should showcase the person whoโ€™s wearing them.

But still, it was such a joy to admire these creations and appreciate their beauty for what they are.

Some impressions from the From Within exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Vilnius โ€“ an exhibition that beautifully combines art history and psychology. Two of my deep interests brought together โ€“ of course, I had to go.๐Ÿฅน

The structure of the exhibition is shaped by the personality model of psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung (1875โ€“1961) โ€“ one of my favorite authors โ€“ and the therapeutic vision of art by philosopher and writer Alain de Botton (b. 1969).

I spent quite a few hours there, and it truly moved me. Some pieces were provocative and even evoked rejection; others were touching, almost soothing. Each room focused on a different question, and I traveled through them with a swirl of emotions โ€“ some Iโ€™d rather forget, and some insights I will definitely carry with me.

It felt like the exhibition expanded my perspective on our inner worlds and raised questions Iโ€™ll be processing for a long time. And I guess that kind of lasting effect is a complete success for the team behind it.

There is no clear gradation between โ€œstressedโ€ and โ€œrelaxedโ€โ€”everyone has their own definition, shaped by their feelings and whatโ€™s normal for THEM. That makes it tricky to measure.

These words live in relativity - I measure my stress level in relation to my own norm, and to others. And because thereโ€™s no actual scale with numbers, and life is often hectic, we tend to drift towards โ€œmore stressedโ€ over time if we donโ€™t counteract it. Usually, we donโ€™t even noticeโ€”like the boiling frog.

โœจSometimes we need a pauseโ€”on vacation, in natureโ€”to realize weโ€™ve been worrying and exhausting ourselves too much, and that we truly need rest.
โœจSometimes we need another person to help us feel new levels of calm, when their inner state fills us.
โœจSometimes we need feedback from others (and hopefully weโ€™re open to it) reminding us to slow down, because theyโ€™re worried about us.
