Day… - and I am done!

It has actually now been a few days since I stopped the Cleanse – but I wanted to take a moment to reflect and also observe my body & mind in this new normal.

I took my first cup of coffee at my favourite local spot and it did feel totally amazing – the aroma, the taste, but also the ritual of it all!

Lesson #1 coffee was the hardest part to give up and I would not want to do that permanently – as it is such a big part of social life and slow life

Lesson #2 the hardest were by far the first 3 days, with the headaches, body aches and simply adjusting the routines and shopping / cooking habits. After that, it was totally fine and seeing the great benefits was keeping me going at any “weak” moments (but there were not that many, actually).

Lesson #3 it is amazing how we use food as activity, entertainment, break, socialization, boredom remedy, etc. And not really to address hunger. We eat in anticipation “I might be hungry later so I better eat now”… which is totally wrong. In the cleanse the eating is responsive and it changes everything.

Lesson #4 I was fearing this to be expensive and difficult to shop for – but it is not!! You will find that if you stop buying snacks, takeaway coffees, ice creams and alcohol, the food bill goes down by A LOT, even with 100% organic diet and gluten-free items (which are understandably more costly that non gf equivalents).

Lesson #5 Meny has the best stocked “free from” aisle, but actually there are plenty of options everywhere, even at Rema1000.

Lesson #6 Planning is key, since you cannot just pop to a bakery when hunger strikes.. but again this is a blessing in disguise. You will find yourself eating less and going for walk, reading or engaging with other activities rather than mindlessly snacking “because it’s there & available”.

Lesson #7 The changes in the body & mind are incredible and waaaaay worth the effort and the initial struggle. I’ve never slept so deeply, never had such steady high energy level throughout the day into late evening. Never felt so light and calm and focused. My body never felt this loose, even with regular training I had no soreness in the muscles and the joints felt super flexible.

Whilst I recognise this is not for everyone, it definitely sounds much harder than it actually is and the benefits are priceless. It’s also amazing to experience the impact of food on the body and mind in that way and it definitely makes you reconsider your dietary choices.

I will be doing this again in a shorter version in September – come join!

Day 16 - next to last!

Can’t believe I’m nearly done and will be back to the “normal” (or the “new normal”) after tomorrow! Still feeling great and settled into the shopping and eating habits.

Had a big deliverable today for my business - so made sure I start the day in the best possible way (with a swim). Then lots of work work work and when I was finally done at 15:30 it was a good feeling.

What to have on day 16:

🍋 hot lemon water
☕️ Rooibos tea after the swim

Porridge with berries & nuts for brunch & plenty of water.

Banana & apple for snack

🥗 dinner was salad (mixed leaves avocado almonds spring ontiin roasted sweet potatoes and courgette) and some dates for dessert 🍮

I have a kids-filled weekend as the husband is off golfing and look forward to sharing meals and coffee morning rituals again with them 🥰

Day 15 - 2 days to go!!

Now that the end is in sight I am actually struggling to stay on track - it’s like my strong will can see the finish line and has loosened its reign!

Had a really good run (albeit short) this morning followed by prepping for the Masterclass I will be delivering tomorrow. And time with the kids.

🍋 Lemon water

🥣 gf oats with almond milk & almonds

Grapefruit and cherries for snack

Tea and some peanut butter in the afternoon

Banana 🍌 after picking the kids up

Stir fry again (made double batch)

I have to say it’s been great to diversify out of pasta pizza omelet loop but I miss those quick staples that I can enjoy with the kids (insulting my 16 month old who seems to be living off bread and fruit).

Day 14 - back on Level 1!

It feels good to start having solid food again and more variety. The last 5 days I’ve struggled with hunger towards the evening which is a sign of insufficient calorie intake - but it’s hard to hit the calorie quota with juice!

So today was:

Lemon 🍋 water to start

Peanut butter on maizecrackers for breakfast

Green juice with lots of ginger 🫚 for snacks

Hummus carrots snap peas and seaweed crisps for lunch

Tofu broccoli and brown rice stir fry for dinner.

Day 13 - Level 2

And so we start the climb back up. Today it’s all liquid diet with just veg and as little as possible of else.

🏃 run this morning and CrossFit in the evening but felt really great all day - just hungry 😋😅.

What to have on day 13:

🍋 lemon water to start with

Big spoonful of peanut butter and some banana after my run

🥤mid morning: pineapple celery kale ginger

🥗 lentil soup

🍎 apple for snack

Rest of the lentil soup for dinner 🥘

Lots of water too!!

From tomorrow it’s back to Level 1 until Friday - 👏

Days 11 & 12 - Level 3 done ✅✅

Level 3 = green juice and lightly cook handful of oats. and plenty of water.

Had intense classes both days, with 4hrs of training, then treatment and meditation - which is also a part of the Cleanse.
The body feels different somehow - in some ways weaker (I know I lost muscle mass) but at the same time quite resilient and more flexible, less achy. Mind very clear and good steady energy!

What to have...:

Hot water with lemon to start

oat "soup" for breakfast (60g of oats with around 300ml of water, bring to boil then simmer for a few minutes - eat)

Green Juice after workout session around 13 (celery kale lime and pineapple & ginger)

Rest of the juice after getting home around 17

Oat "soup" for dinner!
.. tomorrow I will be starting my "way back up", with liquid diet for 1 day and then restricted diet until Friday!

Day 10 - Level 2 (green juice and veg soup only)

The high beer settled, my body adjusted & the day was great.
Had lots of energy with Client treatments, working out some IT stuff for my Masterclass next week & long afternoon trip to the zoo with Sofia.

☕️ Rooibos at 7:00 with the kids
🥤 after getting home at 10: kale mango celery ginger lime.

Avocado 🥑 to power me for the zoo 😅

Sparkling water at the zoo

Vegan daal 🥣 for dinner

It’s incredible what your body is capable of in terms of adjusting itself and bouncing back!

Full cleanse day 11 & 12 coming up 🤞💪🏻😎

Day 9 - Level 2 here we go!

This level is about liquid diet of just vegetables - as a juice or soup. It’s to prepare for the 48hr fast on days 11-12.

boy it was tough!! 🥵. Very hungry all day and missed the textures and variety.

Had 2 dates at one point in the morning after CrossFit as a juice was not going to cut it!!

🍋 hot lemon water to start

🥤 before the gym: pineapple celery kale spinach ginger banana.

🥗 was lentil soup which was amazing and kept me going til my 5pm juice

🥤 same juice at 17:00

🍲 rest of the soup for dinner.

Day 8 (last day of Level 1)

I love the word "overskud" in Danish as it conveys exactly what I have been feeling for the past few days - surplus of energy and vitality and space that my body & mind give me to get on with my day.

Crazy how different I feel in just those mere 8 days - not just physically in terms of energy, but also in terms of mind (clear and focused), sleep (deep to the point that I wake up not knowing where I am) and also dreams (yes! wild vivid dreams)!

Tomorrow (Day 9) I will start on Level 2 which is a liquid diet of fresh juice and vegetable soup only, before embarking on 2 days of fasting over the weekend.

8 menu:

Lemon water to start

Corn cakes with peanut butter and banana for breakfast

Gf porridge with almond milk and extra coconut oil around 10am (small portion)

Salad: mixed leaves avocado almonds and dressing of lemon juice & olive oil

Snacks: dates, nuts, apple.

Dinner: daal! new recipe & really great.

Late evening snack hummus & carrots.

Day 7 -

It was a long day in the office that started with Sofia at 5:30am (Im an early morning person so dont mind), then 2hrs of BodySDS Grundtræning 6:45-8:45 and then full day at the classes 9-16. Plus cycle there and back to Parken 😎.

My energy was good and steady and yes my body and mind were tired and yes i did go to bed early - but no issues or major crisis points getting through the day 🥳.

What to have on Day 7:
- Hot lemon water to start (literally never miss a day of that!)
- Peanut butter corn crackers and dates after training before class
- Nectarine & banana for mid-morning snack

- Lunch was hummus carrots cucumber and an apple and root veg crisps

- Green Juice: celery lime spinach ginger for 3pm break

- Big bowls of oats when I got home and no dinner.

Now only 1 day left before Level 2 starts which is a liquid diet of vegetables (soup and juice) for 2 days.

Keep going 💪
