Lugol’s Iodine-Induced Puckering of the Cervical Internal Os Observed by Narrow Band Imaging Endoscopy: A Novel Case Report

Abstract
We report a novel observation of localized puckering of the uterine cervical internal os upon application of Lugol’s iodine during Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) endoscopy. The phenomenon appeared as inward folding or dimpling of the cervical tissue, suggestive of localized smooth muscle contraction. Possible mechanisms include osmotic stimulation or potassium-mediated depolarization. This first reported case provides insight into functional cervical responses during diagnostic procedures and highlights a potential functional biomarker of cervical smooth muscle activity.Salwa phenomenon
