Genomic medicine is a medical discipline that involves using a person's genomic information as part of their clinical care. Lack of Genomic medicine education is a worldwide challenge, and in its 2024/2025 vision for implementing a “Genomic medicine continuing medical education program”, the Molecular Research and Diagnostic Unit (MRDU) is offering a monthly series of “Meet the Experts” meetings that will cover different topics on genomic medicine.
This month we are having a special scientific day on Strip Hybridization Assay and its clinical applications.

مُنحت جائزة نوبل في علم وظائف الأعضاء أو الطب لعام 2022 لسفانتي بابو ، لاكتشافاته المتعلقة بجينومات البشر المنقرضين والتطور البشري. كطالب ما بعد الدكتوراه ، بدأ بابو في تطوير طرق لدراسة الحمض النووي من إنسان نياندرتال ، وهو مسعى استمر عدة عقود.

Message to all postdocs out here :) The nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine 2022 was awarded to Svante Paabo, for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinict hominis and human evolution. As a postdoctoral student , Pääbo started to develop methods to study DNA from Neanderthals, an endeavor that lasted several decades.

Through his pioneering research, Svante Pääbo accomplished something seemingly impossible: sequencing the genome of the Neanderthal, an extinct relative of present-day humans. He also made the sensational discovery of a previously unknown hominin, Denisova. Importantly, Pääbo also found that gene transfer had occurred from these now extinct hominins to Homo sapiens following the migration out of Africa around 70,000 years ago. This ancient flow of genes to present-day humans has physiological relevance today, for example affecting how our immune system reacts to infections. for more info, check the link below
