**Fasting and Immune Health**
🔆Fasting means to abstain from consuming any food for 12 hours or more. Water💧 is typically the only beverage consumed.
🔆During fasting, ketones become the main source of energy for both the brain and the body. Thus increasing insulin sensitivity.
🔆Fasting promotes removal of sick and damaged cells🥵 from the body, formation of healthy new cells 😇which includes infection fighting white blood cells🤺
🔆Fasting enhances resistance to stress and leads to cellular toxins elimination.
🔆Fasting has the potential to prevent many age-related diseases, autoimmunity, progression of increasing blood sugar levels, improving cardiovascular health and increased longevity.
🔆There are several ways to fast.
🔸Fast for 12 hours per day: fasts from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
🔸Fast for 16 hours per day: allowing an 8-hour eating window with a focus on consuming nutrient-dense foods
🔸Weekly 24 hour fast: no food is consumed for 24 hours
🔸Fasting for 2 days per week: eating a normal healthy diet for 5 days of the week while fasting for the other two days. Fasting days are normally 2-3 days apart
🔆For someone with chronic illness, fasting should be done under the guidance of an expert.
At Functional Medicine Clinic, we help in reversing most chronic diseases & be healthy, vibrant again. Fasting is one of the tools that we use.
