Today we explored a hiking path around 25 minutes drive from us. It was really beautiful, not too difficult - ended up seeing waterfall (Arroyo De La Miel) and wild roaming horses, cows and Iberian pigs. Noya walked majority of the way herself. Will definitely do a lot more hiking trips on weekends, was so beautiful to see so many families with kids doing the same.

And of course, the rain is still following us - managed to get absolutely wet to the car.

What to eat when you are travelling? Somehow this question came up several times with my patients this week and I thought it might be worth sharing my tips.

1. If I have time I usually make beef mince pancakes (as they are tasty even cold) or bake my keto bread and make sandwitches with beef or salmon.
2. If I need to buy anything in the airport, I go for boiled eggs, salads with fish or chicken, sashimi. I do not like to buy nuts as it is easy to finish the whole bag and still feel hungry.
3. My new favourite discovery are grass fed beef bars from . They are high in proteins, low in carbs, natural ingredients and no nasties. Great for travelling, as a snack or sometimes can even replace a meal if you are in a rush. They have 4 different flavours, however my husband has managed to finish the Original one already (ladies that can be a gift idea for your loved one 😂). The light we are exposed to has a massive effect to our health. Unfortunately nowadays there is so much blue light coming from our devices and lighting which can lead to blue light toxicity affecting our eyes, sleep, mood and some even speculate our skin. That’s why blue light glasses should not be seen as a “crazy trend” - it is an absolute must for our kids and ourselves if we want to have an optimal health.

3 Environmental pollutants we need to be aware of. As the winter approaches we need to really check our house, as mold can be a massive health hazard especially if left untreated. Recently, I have had a consultation with my patient who has an autoimmune condition and after finding out that he has mold in the house - the best step for him was to move. However sometimes even if you do not see the mold visually it migh be in your walls and “silently” causing you health issues.

I have always been really into natural skincare, however very often it would be ineffective, difficult to use and sometimes would even cause the reaction. After my daughter was born and we noticed that she has a very sensitive skin we have tried many moisturising creams and nothing really worked and to be honest some natural creams would even make it worse. Then we started using tallow cream (basically beef fat) - it is not only natural, but also very hydrating and hypoallergenic, if my daughter’s skin loves it - you will love it too (great for dry and flaky skin, sensitive skin, even skin prone to acne). After seeing the results with her, I have started using it myself, initially for my body and now even for my face. I love that I know what I am putting on my skin, it is not clogging my pores and my skin has never been so hydrated. I do use some additional serums or acids occasionally, but tallow cream is my main product in my skincare routine. Usually by this time, I get really dry hands and lips, but not this year. And the best part - my bathroom shelves never looked better, just few bottles rather than 100 products.

These tests should be done routinely, however I rarely see them done prior to people coming to see me. For example, fasting insulin is an incredible marker to see how our body is copping with glucose, however the ranges given by the labs are usually really inaccurate. Let’s say the range is 1.6 - 10.9 mU/L (the optimal range is around 1-4mU/L). That’s why sometimes even when you “fit” the labs ranges, you are already not at the optimal levels.
