Q: What's a common mistake people do in Shirshasana (the headstand pose)? ⁣
A: They don't energetically engage their centre! ⁣

When you go upside down, your legs might start to shake and it might feel like you have no control over our body. Here is the thing: If the medial line (a line that runs vertically through your body) is not activated, you won't be able to keep the pose steady.⁣

Take a look at this picture. I am supporting Rebeca even though she is pushing the ground away with her forearms and she is keeping her legs long & strong. Why can't I let her go? Her legs are apart. The energy flows in two directions instead of one. ⁣


A good way to keep headstands balanced and firm, is to imagine that there is a block in between the thighs that has to be squeezed so it doesn't fall down. That will activate the lower abs, magnetize the hip bones towards one another (which will add some strength to the pose) AND energetically strengthen the vertical line of her body. The legs will be placed in the middle of the vertical line automatically! This will center the pose in space and allow it to stay balanced! :)

1. How fast you learn foreign languages, study material, playing an instrument ... (there will always be someone who will master particular skills faster than you) ⁣

2. The dynamic in your family (there will always be someone who has better relationships with their family members) ⁣

3. Your body image (there will always be someone who looks better, sexier, slimmer, stronger than you) ⁣

4. How great you are at following what society expects from you (there will always be someone who seems to have his 💩 together) ⁣

A question you might ask yourself and reflect upon: Is it possible that I suffer because I compare my life to other xyz's life? ⁣

Judging the way we look in splits and comparing it to how other people around us (or in some pictures) look in them is a tendency that many of us have. I know it because I've been there when I started my practice! ⁣

When we are busy comparing and competing, it might be challenging to start paying attention to the areas of your the body that hold tension. When we don't know much about our bodies and where our anxiety, stress, emotional build-ups are located, we can't take control over them. They will continue controlling us. ⁣

The reason why we practice splits (and what could motivate you to practice them as well) is to train ourselves to be at peace with where we are in any given moment. It's not about being able to do a fancy-looking pose but rather about letting go of the need to be "as good as" xyz. If we apply this mindset to our daily life, we suddenly feel the liberty that comes along with not forcing yourself to be as someone else. THAT'S YOGA. ⁣

In a non-crisis set up, I drink alcohol probably 30 x year = 2,5 x times a month. This number means that I finish my drinks twice a month. It also means that one time a month, I fall asleep halfway through the party. Alcohol can put me to sleep. ⁣

Wait ... that's not true. I am Madonna when I drink, even if it's just 1/2 glass of Clara. That takes a lot of energy out of me. AND THAT makes me fall asleep ... ⁣

Where am I going with this? ⁣

1. If you happen to feel GUILTY because you are not a socially drinking butterfly and you also fall asleep when everyone is doing fiesta, then please balance your 2nd chakra. ⁣

2. I refuse to hear the C###x9 word this week. I need a break. I say STOP. I say NEIN. I say VALE, NO GRACIAS, Adeuuuu. This week is about Gin & Tonic and balancing the energy centres. It's my non-violent protest against C###9. ⁣
