The Difference Between a “Salus” and Coz’s Holistic Maternity Care
In Spain, a “Salus” traditionally focuses on the physical care of the newborn — feeding, changing, settling, and supporting parents in practical baby care during the early weeks. Their main role is to ensure that the baby’s basic needs are met, often providing valuable night support so parents can rest. The approach is largely task-oriented and centred around the baby’s routine, comfort, and wellbeing.
My role as a Maternity Carer goes beyond this. While I provide the same expert newborn care that a Salus would, my approach is holistic and family-centred, recognising that a baby’s wellbeing is deeply connected to the emotional and mental health of the whole family.
My care focuses not just on what the baby needs, but also on how the parents feel. I offer gentle guidance that respects each family’s values, rhythms, and emotional needs — creating an atmosphere of calm, confidence, and connection.
My support includes:
• Emotional check-ins and compassionate listening for both parents.
• Gentle encouragement through the ups and downs of early parenthood.
• Practical tools for rest, recovery, and mental wellbeing.
• Flexible routines that prioritise bonding over rigid schedules.
• A nurturing presence that supports the whole household, not just the baby.
In essence, while a Salus focuses on the baby’s care, My maternity care embraces the whole family’s wellbeing — balancing practical support with emotional understanding to help everyone feel settled, confident, and cared for.
