Day 6: Padron to Santiago de Compostela

Our goal was to walk 100km and we ever so slightly surpassed it. The scenery was especially beautiful, the raindrops on greenery brightened by soft sunlight. Today was the only day we experienced rain, and for the most part, it was intermittent. The city here is so beautiful and the cathedral is exquisite. I held my mala, silently recited my mantra, shed some tears, and lit a candle for those dear to me who’ve passed on from this life. We walked through the crypt and marvelled at the opulence of the cathedral before heading to the pilgrim office to receive our certificates.

It’s hard to imagine how many people have made this trek, and I know now that it’s personal for each of us. What an extraordinary experience. Thank you to my companion perregrinos, & for a trek I’ll never forget. xo

Day 5: Caldas de Reis to Padron

1 more day to go! We’ve walked just over 93km over the last 5 days. It would have been impossible to know what this would be like in advance. I’m a walker and I love to both hike and stroll leisurely. Words can’t completely explain what this has been like. It’s been so many things and thoughts and feelings: beautiful, painful, exhilarating, invigorating, exhausting, emotional, peaceful, intentional, introspective, gratifying, mindful, mindless, expansive, emptying, grievous, meaningless, hilarious, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I am a “say yes to life” person, and I am so grateful for my adventurous spirit, and for saying yes to THIS. I’m glad the journey is almost complete and rest is on the horizon, I will continue to savour every moment of the next 24 hours and the incredible perseverance of all the travellers on this journey.

Day 4: Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis

Wow. I heard Day 4 would be tough. And was it ever. 24.7km later and my body does not want to walk any further. I think a good night’s sleep will fix that…despite the challenges and tight muscles, I’m still optimistic and feeling romantic about this incredible country and the rest of the walk ✨✨✨ there’s been lots of releasing, realizations, and moments of awe. And of course, I’m grateful to my 2 amigas + for the support, friendship, laughs, and lessons they are teaching me along the journey.

2 more days to go!

Day 3: Vigo to Pontevedra
We had slightly less pep in the step today, as our bodies are getting tired. Fatigue aside, I’m absolutely enchanted by North-west Spain. The people, the scenery, the food, the blend of old and new - all of it a sensory feast. Today was a tougher walk, with the equivalent of 33 floors climbed and 21.7km walked. At one point I remembered that I chose to do this and was overcome with emotion and tears. There’s something magical happening on this journey and it’s hitting me right in the heart. Sending love to all xo

And now we rest ✨✨✨

Gratitude post for all the wonderful products that have kept me healthy, hydrated, (almost) blister-free!
From hydration tablets, healing salves, and reflexology balls to magnesium spray, , L-glutamine and more, I couldn’t have completed Day 3 of the Camino without these. Special shout-out to for the duct tape tip! 🙏🙏🙏

Day 2: Baiona to Vigo
3 more stamps in our Camino passports and another amazing day of nearly 27,000 steps. Today we took in breathtaking ocean views and white sand beaches, passed by lush flower, fruit, and vegetable gardens and strolled alongside verdant meadows. We played on swings, stopped for coffee by the water, met an artist, and had lunch by the sea. Despite weary legs and feet, it was a perfect day. I’m loving my pack and my trail hikers - both great investments for a trek like this, and it truly is a journey of a lifetime.

Day 1 complete! Our journey has begun with an 18km walk from Oia to Baiona. With stunning ocean views of the Atlantic, eucalyptus forests on the mountains above, and meadows of pampas grass, I’m grateful and inspired. How many people have walked these paths over the centuries? What were their journeys like? How will we feel tomorrow?

One of my favourite quotes from the beautiful, late is,
“Walk as If you are kissing the earth with your feet.”

I’ve said to a few of my friends, imagine if we did this, imagine that each step were a kiss placed on the earth below our feet. How might we respond differently to the earth, to all living things? How might we interact differently with one another?

Earthing is a beautiful practice. It connects us, with the earth, with ourselves. It reminds us of the way to our hearts. 💚💚💚

Thank you to all our First Nations people from around the world for your wisdom and guidance 💚

Thank you for teaching us how to honour the lands of our planet, how to listen to nature, and to flow with what is.

Thank you for teaching us to listen to the beating of our own hearts, and to be guided by the wisdom within and between those heartbeats.

Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏

(And thank you to my cousin Krista for the beautiful gift of these Aboriginal Ancestral Wisdom cards) ✨✨✨

What a lovely weekend with my dear cousins, the incredible couple & 💚💚💚

From lush mountains to the azure ocean, listening to classics on vinyl, picnic, brunch, crystals, reiki, the Miami Marketta, delicious vegan food and so much more, I wish I could put you both in my pocket and take you back to Canada with me.

Until next time (when I’ll take more photos) xoxoxo
