Over the years traveling, when I said I was Irish, the amount of people who simply replied back to me “Sinéad O’ Connor” made me smile.
I loved that. And felt so proud of her and the impact she made internationally - even now seeing all the global news reports posting about her, it’s heart-warming to know how far-reaching this woman’s truth was.
She was a prophet of her time, an activist, a warrior of the heart, a tender soul but most of all she was a true artist, making art.
Not the washed down kind of art we see now, where record companies call the shots. When asked if she ruined her career by ripping up a photo of the pope on live TV- she said it ruined the careers of the guys in the record company who wanted to buy a house in the Caribbean. It forced her to play more live gigs and that was the fuel of her soul.
Sinéad, more recently known as Shuhada’ Sadaquat was completely mesmerising.
I remember as a kid listening to her singing - she carved a path to the emotions of my heart with her otherworldly voice, that came from deep inside her gut, from the knowings of the wild woman, from the core of the earth.
It was her potent energy, her unshakability from speaking the truth, of making a social impact, championing weaker voices, seeing through the bullsh*t and having the bravery to speak out loudly that made her so loved by everyone.
Her honesty and rawness was piercing.
If you listened to her music, your soul moved by at least an inch or more.
Your heart and fist pumped simultaneously.
And you knew that others were somehow feeling the same as you.
She is a master of being your unstoppable self.
“They tried to bury me, they didn’t realise I was a seed”.
Sinéad/ Shuhada’ , we will always be inspired and moved by your timeless art and your seeds.
Rest in peacefulness, rest in power 🕊✨
