WHY CAN'T YOU? - "Sir, hold a cattle first before you judge."
So I was at the gym one day - tired, sore, and just not in the mood. A medical student side-eyes me for skipping the previous workout day and goes,
"I'm also busy, but I still show up. Why can't you?"
I paused and smiled. Then thought to myself:
You ever restrain a bleating goat while practicing IV access? You ever wake up at 6am to clean up post-op vomit and diarrhea because your rotation dog just had surgery and complications? You ever sit through a 3-hour lecture on parasites, then get grilled on 30 diseases in pathology, then attend to the microscopes in microbiology lab?
You think you're tired? Try being a vet student. We don't have separate departments - we absorb entire disciplines.
And somehow, we're still expected to smile through it. Still show up. Still excel. Still "do it for the love of animals." But behind that love? Is a resilience most people will never understand.
So next time someone tries to compare stress levels... Ask them if they've ever had to diagnose a silent killer in an animal that can't speak, and treat it before the farmer loses his entire livelihood. Because that? That's just another Tuesday in vet med.
And no one has the right to passively degrade my course because of mere ignorance.

COMMON SURGICAL TERMS: -

๐Ÿ‘‰ Exophthalmosโ€”refers to position of the globe when it is set more anteriorly than normal within the orbit.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Fundusโ€”the image obtained when the posterior segment is viewed through the pupil with an ophthalmoscope. The image is created by a superimposition of the retina and optic nerve upon the choroid (which includes the tapetum) and sclera.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Glaucomaโ€”optic nerve damage as a result of increased intraocular pressure (intraocular pressure greater than 25 mm Hg).

๐Ÿ‘‰ Goniodysgenesisโ€”congenital malformation of the iridocorneal angle. Also referred to as pectinate ligament dysplasia.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Gonioscopyโ€”visual examination of the iridocorneal angle. This test is performed by a veterinary ophthalmologist. It is most often used to determine if glaucoma is primary or secondary.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Hyphemaโ€”blood in the anterior chamber. Presence of hyphema indicates anterior uveitis.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Hypopyonโ€”pus in the anterior chamber. Presence of hypopyon indicates anterior uveitis.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Hypotonyโ€”decreased intraocular pressure. This is often a symptom of anterior uveitis.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Iridocorneal angleโ€”the angle created by the iris and the cornea. This is the main exit pathway for aqueous humor from the eye. This aqueous outflow pathway is referred to as the conventional pathway.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Iridocyclitisโ€”inflammation of the iris and ciliary body
