ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ በሚገኝ አንዱ የዩኒቨርስቲ ተማሪ ነኝ። የወደፊት ኑሮዬን ለማሸነፍ በዩንቨርስቲ ቆይታዬ ውጤታማ እንድሆን የምችለውን ሁሉ እየታገልኩ ነው:: ከቅርብ ጊዜ ወዲህ ግን የወር አበባ መቀበያ ድህነት ምክንያት ትግሌ ይበልጥ አስቸጋሪ እየሆነ መጥቷል። የንፅህና መጠበቂያ ሞዴስ መግዛት አልችልም እናም በወር አበባዬ ወቅት ብዙውን ጊዜ ጨርቃ ጨርቅ ወይም ጋዜጣ መጠቀም ግድ ይሆንብኛል።
ይህ ደግሞ በጣም እንድሳቀቅ እና እንዳፍር ከማድረጉም በላይ የማይመች ነው:: ብዙ ጊዜም የወር አበባዬን በማይበት ወቅት ደሙ ከጋዜጣው ወይም ጨርቁ አልፎ ልብሴን ይነካብኛል:: የወር አበባዬን በአግባቡ ማስተዳደር ባለመቻሌ ምክንያት ትምህርት አልፎ ተርፎም ፈተና አምልጦኝ ያውቃል::
ይህም ተስፋ የሚያስቆርጥ ነው እናም በውጤቴ እንዲሁም በወደፊት ተስፋዬ እና እጣፋንታዬ ላይ ከፍተኛ ተጽዕኖ አድርጓል። የወር አበባዬ ላይ በምሆንበት ወቅትም በዩንቨርስቲዬ ውስጥ በተለያዩ እንቅስቃሴዎችም ሆነ በማህበራዊ ዝግጅቶች መሳተፍ አልችልም ምክንያቱም ስለ ንፅህና ሁኔታዬ እጅግ ስለምሳቀቅ። ማምለጥ የማልችለው የማያቋርጥ ሸክም ሆኖ ይሰማኛል።
በዚህ ትግል ውስጥ ብቻዬን እንዳልሆንኩ አውቃለሁ፣ ብዙ ሴት ተማሪዎች በወር አበባ መቀበያ ቁስ እጦት እንደሚቸገሩ አውቃለሁ::
አንድ ቀን ሁሉም ሴት የወር አበባዋን በክብር እና ያለ እፍረት በነፃነት በንፁህ መቀበያ እንድትቀበል ፤ ቁሶችን እምታገኝባቸው ቦታዎች ላይ እንደሚቀመጡላት ተሳፋ አደርጋለሁ!::"

"As a university student in Ethiopia, I have always struggled to make ends meet. But recently, my struggle has become even more difficult due to period poverty.
I am unable to afford sanitary pads or tampons, and often resort to using rags or even newspaper during my period. It is embarrassing and uncomfortable, and it often leads to leaks and embarrassing accidents.
I have missed classes and even exams because of my inability to properly manage my period. It is demoralizing and has seriously impacted my grades and my future prospects.
I am also unable to participate in physical activities or social events during my period because I am too self-conscious about the state of my hygiene. It feels like a constant burden that I cannot escape.
I know that I am not alone in this struggle, as many other women in Ethiopia also face period poverty. But it is still a difficult and isolating experience. I hope that one day, everyone will have access to the menstrual products they need in order to live their lives with dignity and without shame."

በአንዲት ትንሽ መንደር ውስጥ ከቤተሰቧ ጋር የምትኖር አዩ የምትባል ሴት ልጅ በ14 እድሜዋ የወር አበዋ ሲመጣ የገጠማት ታሪክ::
አዩ የቤተሰቧ ገቢ አነስተኛ ስለነበረ በወር አበባዋ ወቅት የምትጠቀምበትን ንፁህ እና ጤነኛ ሞዴስ መግዛት አይችሉም ነበር።
አዩ ስለ የወር አበባዋ ማውራት ስለምትሸማቀቅ እና ስለምታፍር ከቤተሰቧ ትደብቃለች። የወር አበባዋ በሚመጣበት ወቅትም በአካባቢዋ የምታገኘውን ማንኛውንም ነገር እንደ መከላከያ ለመጠቀም ትሞክራለች። እንደ አሮጌ ጨርቆችን እና የብርድልብስ ቁርጥራጭን የመሳሰሉትን እንዳገኘች ትጠቀማለች:: ነገር ግን ሁሌ የወር አበባ በመጣ ቁጥር የተጠቀመችበትን ከቤተሰብ ደብቃ ማጠብ ስለማትችል ትጥለዋለች ይሄንን ማድረጓ ሌላ ግዜ ልትጠቀምበት የምትችልበትን በቂ ጨርቅ እንዳይኖራት አደረገባት::
አንድ ቀን አዩ ምርጫ አጣች አመድን እንደ ሞዴስ መጠቀሚያ ፓድ ለመጠቀም ተገደደች::
አመድ መጠቀም ንጽህና የጎደለው እና ወደ ኢንፌክሽን ሊያመራ እንደሚችል ቢታወቃትም ምርጫ ስላልነበራት እና ሌላ ምን ማድረግ እንዳለባት ስለማታውቅ ጥርሶቿን ነክሳ አመድ በጨርቅ ጠቅጥቃ እንዲመጥላት እንደ ሞዴስ ለመጠቀም ተገደደች።
የአዩ የወር አበባ ቁስ ድህነት ለእሷ የማያቋርጥ የጭንቀት እና የውርደት ምንጭ ነበር። በትምህርቷ ላይ ማተኮር ወይም ከጓደኞቿ ጋር በእንቅስቃሴ ላይ መሳተፍ እንዳትችል ትልቁ መሰናክሏም ነበር:: የወር አበባዋ በጣ ቁጥር ስለ ንፅህናዋ ሁኔታ ያለማቋረጥ ስለምትጨነቅ ድባቴ ውስጥም ትገባ ነበር። እራሷን ከሰዎች ታገላለች ሀፍረትም ይሰማታል ንፁህ የወር የወር አበባ መቀበያ አለማግኘትዋ ከሰው ያነሰ ስሜት እንዲሰማት ያደርጋታል:: አዩ እና እንደ አዩ ያሉ ልጆች ባቀዱበት ለመድረስ ንፁህ እና ጤናማ የወር አበባ መቀበያ ማግኘት አለባቸው::


አንዲት ሴት በተፈጥሮዋ ምክንያት ከሰውነት የማነስ ስሜት ሊሰማት አይገባም::
የወር አበባ መቀበያ ቁሶችን ማግኘት የሰብአዊ መብት ነው!

መንግስት እና ሚመለከታቸው ተቋማት አተኩሮት ሊሰጡት ይገባል::

A young girl named Ayu who lived with her family in a small village, Ayu was 14 years old and had just started her menstrual cycle. Her family was poor and could not afford to buy proper pads or tampons for her to use during her periods.
Ayu was embarrassed and ashamed to talk about her periods, so she kept it a secret from her family. She tried to make do with whatever she could find around the house to use as protection. She used old rags and scraps of fabric, but they were often inadequate and left her feeling uncomfortable and dirty.
One day, Ayu ran out of options and was forced to use ASHEs as a makeshift pad. She was terrified and felt humiliated, knowing that using ashes was unhygienic and could lead to infections. She didn't know what else to do, so she gritted her teeth and tried to bear the discomfort as best she could.
Ayu’s period poverty was a constant source of stress and shame for her. She couldn't concentrate on her studies or participate in activities with her friends because she was constantly worried about the state of her hygiene. She felt like an outcast, and the lack of proper menstrual products made her feel less than human.
Nothing should make a woman feel less than a human!

It may sound strange hearing woman using old socks or rag filled with
sand, ash or sawdust as an alternative
for sanitary napkins during their
menstrual period.
Ash, Sand or cow dung as a menstrual pad is a harmful and inhumane practice that violates the rights of women and girls. Menstruation is a natural and normal bodily function, and all people have the right to manage their periods with dignity and comfort.
However, in many parts of the world, poverty and lack of access to safe and hygienic menstrual products can make it difficult for women and girls to manage their periods with dignity.
As a result, some may turn to using improvised or inadequate products, such as ash, leaves, or rags, to absorb menstrual flow.
Using these as a menstrual pad is not only ineffective at absorbing menstrual flow and protecting clothing from stains, but it can also cause irritation, infections, and other health problems. It is a degrading and dehumanizing practice that exposes women and girls to unnecessary suffering and risks to their health and well-being.
Ensuring that all women and girls have access to safe and hygienic menstrual products is a matter of human rights and gender equality.

Governments and civil society organizations have a responsibility to promote menstrual hygiene and provide education and support to disadvantaged communities to ensure that all people can manage their periods with dignity and respect. PERIOD!
