Message of Condolence
The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Amezene Tadesse, former Vice President of the Ethiopian Medical Association and a distinguished Pediatric Surgeon, educator, and leader.
Prof. Amezene was born in Addis Ababa and completed his medical degree with distinction from the Gondar College of Medical Sciences in 1995. His professional journey was marked by excellence, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to advancing surgical education and patient care in Ethiopia.
He served at the University of Gondar and later at Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences, where he rose to the rank of full Professor of Surgery. Prof. Amezene’s leadership extended beyond academia—he contributed immensely to professional associations, including his service as Vice President of the Ethiopian Medical Association.
A respected researcher and mentor, Prof. Amezene authored numerous scientific publications, presented in international forums, and actively participated in collaborative projects aimed at strengthening health systems across Africa. His impact on medical education and surgical practice will be remembered by colleagues, students, and the broader medical community.
EMA extends its heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Dr. Rahel Demissew, his children, family, colleagues, and friends. His legacy of professionalism, humility, and service will continue to inspire generations of Ethiopian physicians.
