The first Diamond Chica event kicked off this past Monday, in the world known sports meca, Hood River - Oregon. The event was hosted by 2 X World Champion, Bruna Kajiya, and counted with 17 chicas, most of them being from different parts of the country with some girls from France, Mexico and Spain. Although the women were from different nationalities, different generations, different backgrounds, they were all brought together by a shared passion for kiteboarding. Having the sport as the link, these women bonded and made real connections by sharing their experiences in the water but also in life. One of the most gripping story was from Mandi Browning, a 3 times cancer survivor and ex Olympic athlete. A quote said by Alli Pareti, described the group perfectly: ¨ The shape of the lanterns might all the different, but the light that shines thought is the same ¨
The Diamond Chica was packed with action, balanced out by talks and laughs. Before kiting the chicas practiced Yoga and a relay race on SUP, which was lead by Fiona Wylde, professional SUP athlete and current ranked second on the World Tour. That was a followed by an afternoon of great wind and lots of riding, where the girls tested the Diamond Series kiteboarding material and tried out new tricks. The day wrapped up by sunset with big smiles and new friendships. Diamond Chicas are events around the globe for active women, having kiteboarding as the center sport but also involving other activities. The goal of the events is to create a tight women’s community in kiteboarding, where everyone supports, inspires and helps each other. The Diamond Series

Bruna Kajiya’s inspiration for the Diamond Chica
¨ I’ve always felt vey passionate about getting recognition and space for women’s kiteboarding, when I first started not many people would watch women’s heats, I remember hearing comments on the beach such as ¨ let’s take a break and go grab some food, it’s the women’s heats now ¨, and I remember the impact it had on me. Since then I wanted to show that we women can also be extreme and perform amazing tricks, and even a touch of grace to make it nicer. Thought out my career I’m always trying to push the existing limits and put women’s kiteboarding on the map. Now with the Diamond Chica I fell I can extend my support for women kiteboarding by bringing these chicas together and creating a wide community of strong, inspiring women that support each other. ¨
