This man was my father. He loved Shakespeare, classical music and fine red wine. He was an immense intellect. He came from humble beginnings but chose a bigger life. He was progressive at a time when it was deeply unpopular for Afrikaners in apartheid South Africa to be so. He taught me not to judge others by their race, religion, or orientation. He instilled in me a love of the arts and travel. He stood up against injustice, often to his own detriment. He was stubborn as hell, life enraged him. He was gentle, kind and was a man of utmost integrity. He had a keen sense of humour and loved the Goon show. He passed away peacefully on 16 October 2021 but will forever be remembered as the formidable, complex character that he was.

It has felt like an eternity since we last went to the theatre. And what a way to return! A brilliant performance from the Alexander Whitley Dance Company at Sadlers Wells. I knew I’d missed the arts but only realised tonight just how much! 🙌🙌

Back to something resembling life pre-COVID, doing my favourite thing, a day out in London visiting an art gallery followed by a leisurely lunch. Went to the Andy Warhol exhibition , which I didn’t think was particularly good. Lots of new rules to visit galleries. But it was great being out in my fave city in the world, even though it is so much quieter and therefore feeling quite strange. @ London Tate Modern

Throwback to this day 2019, our 20th wedding anniversary in New York. The halcyon days of yore... Today we’ll be enjoying a picnic next to the Thames, because the carpark at the beach we were planning to go to is only operating at 20% capacity and is fully booked. 🙄

The loveliest flower of all with its imperial history has to be the Peony. The buds provide food for ants and in turn, they protect the blossoms from other insects. So while the world around us takes one crazy turn after the next, there is still plenty of magic to behold when you take a closer look in the back garden.👀🐜🌸

6 weeks in the life of a tomato, from germination to plant-out ready. We grow LOTS of cherry tomatoes and always have too many, so we freeze them whole and use them in sauces. This one is Rosella which is particularly flavoursome & delicious. Super easy to grow and they taste significantly better than those expensive supermarket offerings!😋🌱🍅

London in lockdown. Eerily quiet but peaceful. No activity on the Thames, just the sound of water lapping. So beautiful and yet it made me feel so nostalgic for the crazy hustle and bustle.

It seems the bees love the lovely Wisteria in the garden just as much as I do. The fragrance is splendid, especially on a warm day. Such a joy to while away some time listening to the buzzing and absorbing the beauty of these blooms! 🐝

While we were sleeping soundly last night, this home baked beauty was slowly doing its thing, proving in the fridge, getting ready to shine when it was baked 1st thing this morning. Some people call it “overnight bread”, Portuguese friends call it “pão caseiro”, whatever you name it, it’s delicious! Especially when you add homemade rhubarb jam from the allotment. The lockdown has some benefits.

“Where flowers bloom so does hope”. So said Lady Bird Johnson. All was quiet on the South West front during my lunchtime jog today. It’s astonishing how silent it is out there when human activity comes to a near halt. 🏃‍♀️🤫 @ Wimbledon Commons
