Birthing in a foreign country adds a massive layer of “mental load” that standard birth classes completely miss. 🇬🇧 🇫🇷

It’s not just about learning the stages of labour. It’s about understanding the specific protocols at your local Maternité, knowing exactly which questions to ask your Gynéco, and advocating for your choices when you are navigating a medical system in your second language.

My newly enhanced Private Birth Preparation is designed specifically for the international community here in Paris. It’s not just about the physiology of birth... it’s about the reality of birthing here.

By combining personalised birth education with the continuous, “in-your-pocket” support of a Virtual Doula, I help you cut through the noise and the translation barriers.

This is a one-of-a-kind program in Paris, and I only take a limited number of families each month so I can be truly available to you.

Ready to feel anchored, empowered, and deeply held?

Ever walked out of a prenatal appointment feeling rushed and emotionally invisible? 🥹

The maternity system moves fast. When an appointment is just 10 minutes of checking blood pressure and a heartbeat before rushing you out the door, the emotional side of your pregnancy gets left behind.

When you’re “spiralling” after a quick check-up, you don’t need another frantic midnight Google search.

You need someone in your corner to help you process it.

Imagine having a Doula’s virtual hug and a Birth Educator’s practical experience right in your pocket.📱

The ZEN Birth Private Birth Preparation now includes continuous virtual Doula support.

Because your feelings are valid, and you are more than just a patient number.

This is the practical and emotional “on-call” guidance that bridges the gap between those clinical visits.

It’s the missing piece for parents who want deep, personalised birth prep, but don’t necessarily need a full birth-room Doula.

Let’s be honest: The French maternity system is world-class. 🇫🇷

If you have a medical emergency during your pregnancy, you are in the safest hands possible. Because of this, there is a pervasive narrative making rounds in the expat community: “Don’t worry, the midwives are great, the hospital is free, you’ll be fine.”

This is what I call the “Good Enough” Illusion.

It’s the belief that, because you are medically safe, you are fully supported. It’s the idea that because your vitals are being tracked, your transition into motherhood is being tended to.

But for the expat mother, navigating birth away from her village, ‘fine’ is a potentially dangerous standard.

Standard care is designed for clinical efficiency. It has a ceiling. It can measure your belly, but it cannot check in with your soul. It gives you a pamphlet, but it isn’t there at 9pm, when the anxiety spirals.

You deserve to be Safe, no doubt about that. But, you also deserve to be Held.

I’ve written a manifesto for the woman who refuses to settle for the baseline.

Read my new blog post, “The Good Enough” Illusion, to understand the crucial difference between clinical safety and true, fierce support.

🤰🇫🇷 Giving birth in France? You deserve to be both Safe and Deeply Held.

Hi! I’m Joanna, a Doula in Paris.

As an expat mum of 3, I know the French system is world-class at keeping you medically safe. But I also know that sometimes, “medically safe” can still feel emotionally invisible.

You deserve more than a medical briefing. You deserve a soft place to land combined with grounded expertise, to navigate this system with absolute confidence.

I created The ZEN Bespoke Birth Preparation Experience to bridge the gap for parents who want more than “just a class”, but aren’t looking for full-time, in-person Doula.

It is the “Unicorn” middle ground: 🦄

✨ The Grounded Foundation: 1:1 Private Birth Preparation in the comfort of your home. We focus on evidence-based tools and the practical “how-to” of the French system.

✨ The Emotional Anchor: “Joanna in your pocket” via phone, text or email from the moment you book until 2 weeks postpartum (including 24/7 virtual support during labour).

This is a one-of-a-kind program in Paris, and I only take a limited number of families each month so I can be truly available to you.

Ready to feel anchored, empowered, and deeply held?

Comment or DM me the word Unicorn 🦄 and I’ll send you the details.

I know it’s Friday night, but for some of you, the 9pm “spiral” is just starting. 😵‍💫

You’re medically safe, but you don’t feel Held.

You’ve been told the maternity care in France is “great” and you should be grateful...

But, in the quiet of the night, you actually know that being physically checked isn’t the same as being emotionally tended to.

I’ve just finished a manifesto on why “Good Enough” Maternity Care is an illusion.

Australia passed a law a couple of days ago:
No kid under 16 can have a social media account. Not Facebook. Not Instagram. Not Snapchat. Not TikTok. Not YouTube accounts. Nothing.

And the minute the law passed? They deleted MILLIONS of kids’ pages instantly across multiple platforms.

And honestly… I don’t think they’re wrong.

I have always listened to my gut feeling and limited my children’s screen time… whether that was TV, or video games.

I have always explained to them the dangerous and irreversible effects screens are having on a child’s brain. Not to mention the addictions….

My children will not have their own cellphone until they go to University… same goes for any Social Media accounts…

My children will always be closely monitored with regards to what they are watching, reading, playing, etc… and how much time they are spending in front of a screen.

They are sometimes upset, they are sometimes mad and throwing in my face that I am too strict, they are sometimes comparing themselves with others…

But my position has always been firmly clear. Everything I do is for their own, long term good, sacrificing their short term happiness. I assume this wholly!

NO!
I am not crazy…
I am not too strict!…
I am consciously choosing the hard way, vs the peace of mind and quietness in the house!

Dr. Gabor Maté has been for years now one of the harshest critics against screen time. While some experts believe there is a healthy amount of interaction a child can have with screens, most acknowledge the detrimental effects.

What do you think? Is Dr. Gabor Maté hitting the mark? Or is he overstating his concerns? Share your views in the comments.

Just take a moment and digest that… WOW!

This genuinely changed the way I feel about the being the mum I am to my 3 children…

And it made me finally release that guilt I carried for so many years that I’m not the same mum for them, nor I am the same mum I was few years ago…

Mel Robbins & Gabor Mate:
“Siblings may grow up in the same house, but that doesn’t mean their childhoods are the same. Not even close.

Same parents? Nope.
Same family? Nope.
Same childhood? Absolutely not.

Parents show up differently for each child depending on the season of their life, their relationship, and even their financial situation.

It’s not about who is loved more.
It’s about how that love is expressed - and how each child experiences it.

If you’ve ever wondered why you and your siblings remember childhood so differently - this is why.”

Are you pregnant? Congratulations! 🤰✨

If you’re finding it hard to navigate the French maternity system…

Or if traditional antenatal classes feel too theoretical, cold, or impersonal…

You’re not alone… and you don’t have to prepare for birth like this.

Many expat parents wish for warmer, more personalised support… in addition to the free antenatal classes offered by the system.

A safe space to explore their emotions, birth wishes, and intuition…

In English, with someone who understands the French system from the inside.

I am Joanna, mum of 3, trained and certified Antenatal and HypnoBirthing teacher, and also a Doula.

I have created an independent birth preparation course designed especially for you, expat parents living in France.

🌿 My holistic antenatal accompaniment offers:
* 6 hours of personalised birth preparation in the comfort of your home
* a 130-page printed course book, to guide you beyond the sessions
* a unique in France online learning platform, containing a lot of extra video and written resources
* my ongoing 1:1 support, from the moment you book me, until 2 weeks after birth, either by phone, text, or email. I call it ‘Joanna in your pocket’. Sure, you might not need it... But it’s priceless if you do.

The course provides evidence-based information, alongside my emotional support, and a clear understanding of your options — so you can feel calm, confident, and fully prepared for the right birth for YOU.

Everything delivered to you in English.

* This accompaniment complements (but does not replace) your medical care.

3 truths that saved me a lot of time and heartache over the last few years:

1️⃣ If they wanted to, they would.
2️⃣ Silence is also an answer.
3️⃣ Not everyone shares my values, nor my heart.

Once I have truly and fully came to terms with those 3 things, everything in my life became a lot easier to release and move onto another chapter.

The Full Moon in Ta**us on my birthday, followed by the 11/11 portal…. were a true energetic game changer, as I closed another chapter in our lives 🥰

A story about and with Happy Hugs!

Happy Hugs means us 5: Joanna & Thomas (the happy parents), Bianca & Robin (the happy kids) and Buddy (the happy Cockapoo).

We, the happy parents, are promoting and also raising our children based on a gentle and natural parenting model. We believe that attachment parenting, co-sleeping, babywearing, breastfeeding, unconditional love and child led education offer multiple practical and emotional benefits for both babies and their carers.

That is why our brand statement is "Natural Parenting for Happy Kids!"

Whilst on maternity leave with Robin, a lot of thoughts about my role as both mother and wife, as well as my professional career came as a rollercoaster. More and more I felt that my current professional path is not bringing me enough joy and satisfaction anymore, so after serious consideration, I’ve taken the decision to completely shift my career.
