You can ask yourself this question as often as you like. Eventually you will reach the understanding that you are not your thoughts; that you are actually the peaceful presence prior to thoughts arising and in which thoughts appear.

The thinking mind is the conditioned mind. It builds the person and their stories and beliefs. It creates the dream or the film of their lives and its characters. 'When your mind is quiet' the stories, the dream and its troubles, problems and psychological suffering are transcended. You see then that you are fundamentally complete and whole and at peace, beyond the "created narratives".
