Happy New Year from all of us at Aberdeen Ceramics Studio!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported Aberdeen Ceramics Studio in 2025 - from taking part in our classes and courses, to coming along to see our members at their Spring and Winter markets.

The studio is now re-open after our Christmas break. If you took a class with us in December, we’ll be in touch soon with details on collection dates.

Pictured in this post is a foot throwing demo (thank you Cam!) that we were lucky to experience during our Christmas party - its been a source of inspiration for this years classes!

Our next classes will be available to book on our website from the beginning of February.

We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and we’re looking forward to many more moments like these in the studio this year!

✨Not long to go until our members annual Winter Ceramics Market! ✨

The market will feature the work of over 15 talented makers working from Aberdeen Ceramics Studio. Come along to discover new work, meet the makers and have fun ticking off your festive gift lists. With so many involved this year, there really is something for everyone.

We’re Hiring!

We’re looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and skilled individual to join our team as Studio Technician. This is a permanent, part time position.

The Studio Technician will play a key role in the day-to-day running of Aberdeen Ceramics Studio, ensuring smooth technical operations and supporting members, students and staff.

We’re looking for someone who has experience in working with clay, who is able to work independently and as part of a small team and who has an interest in developing their own creative practice alongside working as part of our community. If the sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re excited to be running our first weekend workshop at Aberdeen Ceramics Studio with invited ceramicist Erica Taylor Low!

Erica will be running a workshop called “Basics and Beyond: a weekend ceramic slipware workshop”. She will introduce you to the ‘pillow technique’ she uses, cover the basics of throwing to enhance your slab pillow and pinched forms and go on to demonstrate slip trailing techniques.

Originally from Arbroath, Erica completed most of her formal training in Devon, England. She has since taken part in multiples residencies, notably in the US. Her work is both thrown and hand built, and decorated using the slip trailing technique.

Over the course of the weekend Erica will support you in creating your own hand built and/or thrown pillow form/s and in experimenting with slip trailing. This workshop is suitable for all levels, and you do not need to be able to throw on the wheel.

“Basics and Beyond: a weekend ceramic slipware workshop” with Erica Taylor Low will take place on:

Date: Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October 2025
Time: 12-5pm

Price: £195, which includes all materials and the firing of work made during the workshop.

Have you seen our new members gallery shop space yet? 🤩

We’re excited to share that five of our studio members are now selling their work in the studio as part of our new gallery shop space!

Come join us this Tuesday evening for our Two Week Handbuilding Class!

Over the course of the two evenings, we’ll explore the world of hand building with clay - pinching, coiling and slab building objects such as (but not limited to) mugs, bowls, vessels, serving dishes and sculptural works. This class is perfect for beginners or for those returning to these skills.

We still have a couple of spaces left on our hand building class which starts tomorrow evening, and we’d love to see you there!

☀️ Kids Summer Classes ☀️

We’re running a day to play with clay this summer for kids aged 5-14 years old!

Monday 4 July 2025, 10am-12pm (5-10 years old and 11-14 years old)
Monday 4 July 2025, 2pm - 4pm (5-10 years old and 11-14 years old)

Ages 5-10 years old can join us to learn about pinching and sculpting clay, experiment with different clay tools and decorating using coloured slips. Kids will learn multiple hand-building techniques to make their own character plant pot. Ages 11-14 years old can join us to learn how to throw on the potters wheel. We’ll learn about the potters wheel, and go on to throw our own small plant pots.

On collection of their finished pieces, kids will also receive a little bag of compost and seeds for planting up their pots at home.

🎉 Aberdeen Ceramics Studio Turns 2! 🎉

May marked two years since we opened our doors, and what an incredible journey it’s been! From our very first class to our amazing community thats grown within the studio, we’re so grateful for everyone who has been a part of it.

We celebrated around the Raku kiln, with an afternoon of firing fun 🔥

A huge thank you to all our students, members, collaborators, and supporters — here’s to many more years of creativity, community and clay!
