2025 marks 100 years of occupational therapy in Scotland 💚

We’re proud to be in Edinburgh today for our first-ever Members’ Day – celebrating a century since Margaret Barr Fulton began her pioneering work as the UK’s first qualified occupational therapist.

Margaret worked from 1925 until 1963 at the Aberdeen Royal Asylum, which is now the Fulton Clinic at Royal Cornhill Hospital. Our patron, The Princess Royal, renamed it in her honour in 1995.

A true trailblazer, Margaret founded the Scottish Association of Occupational Therapy, served as its Chair and became the founding President of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

We’re proud to celebrate her lasting legacy.

Do you need to access a Disabled Facilies Grant?

✅ Do you have a condition or disability that stops you being independent in your own home?

✅ Are you on a local authority, occupational therapy waiting list, waiting for an Assessment?

✅ Are you wanting to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) to adapt your home to meet your needs?

✅ Did you know that you don't need to or have to wait on the the waiting list for an assessment?

✅ Did you know you can approach a private experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) who specialises in Adaptations and Equipment to complete the assessment?

✅ Did you know the cost for employing a private OT can be reclaimed via the DFG funding (if you are eligible for the grant and your application is approved).

✅ The OT must be registered with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

✅ We can offer that service and provide you with a functional and environmental assessment identifying your needs. This will be accompanied with detailed recommendations to adapt your home to meet your needs. You can then provide these documents to your council's housing adaptations

Hi - I’m an independent occupational therapist based in North Wales and positioned on the Cheshire border giving me great access to the North West.

Qualified since 2008, I work with adults, teenagers, children and their families who have been diagnosed with a wide range of conditions and have presenting difficulties such as:
