Did you know this fact?
The ear pressure in the middle ear is generally the same as the pressure outside of the body. The Eustachian tube, which connects the middle ear and the back of the nose and upper throat, helps equalise air pressure on both sides of the ear drum. By swallowing or yawning the tube opens up and allows air to flow into or out of the middle ear, this relieves the pressure. You might be familiar with this when your ears "pop" on an aeroplane.

How often should you have your hearing tested?

If you wear hearing aids, it's recommended to have your hearing tested at least once a year. Regular checkups help ensure your devices are properly programmed to your current hearing levels and performing at their best.

If you don't wear hearing aids and haven't noticed any hearing issues, a hearing test every 2 to 3 years is a good routine- especially if you're over 50 or work in noisy environments.

Early detection of hearing changes can make a big difference.

Keeping your hearing health in check is just as important as caring for your vision or teeth. Don't wait until you notice a problem.

If your hearing test is overdue, contact us today to book your appointment on our website or on 0161 989 1288.

It's important to take care of your hearing aids, proper maintenance extends the life of them and ensures clear, consistent sound quality.

Beauty products are filled with things that can interfere with hearing aids. The small particles that are in various cosmetics can block the hearing aid microphone's input and volume control access. We would advise you to remove your hearing aids before applying your skincare, makeup or haircare products. If for any reason you want to keep your hearing aids in then we'd recommend you use something like a headband to keep them covered and protected.

Wearing a discreet hearing aid can reduce the impact of tinnitus whilst restoring your ability to hear. Hearing technology is expertly fitted and programmed to align with your hearing needs. Of course hearing aids can't cure tinnitus but the aim is to make it less noticeable, the amplified sounds should help distract from the tinnitus. Many people find it a real benefit. At Altrincham Hearing Centre we will work together with you to develop an individualised management plan that best suits your needs.

Book in for a hearing assessment with us on 0161 989 1288 or via our website.

Hearing aids work by amplifying sound, but they don't simply make things louder. The current technology is designed to be adjusted to fit each individual's needs, targeting the specific frequencies that they struggle with. Modern hearing aids have a variety of programs for different circumstances and environments including places with lots of background noise like restaurants. Our audiologists will adjust the hearing aids specifically for your hearing loss and your needs.

They are very complex devices, if you think they may benefit you and you'd like to discuss it further then you can book a hearing assessment on 0161 989 1288 or via our website.

Bonfire night can be a wonderful night with family and friends, enjoying a cosy bonfire and watching an impressive fireworks display, but it's also a very noisy night. Here are some tips to help you enjoy your evening whilst still protecting your hearing.

1. Use hearing protection.
Ear plugs are of course great for protecting your hearing, but even ear muffs can absorb sound and make a big difference.

2. Keep a safe distance away.
Adults should be at least 20 metres away from fireworks, whilst children should be kept at a minimum distance of 60 metres.

3. Check in with your ears. If you start to experience ringing or discomfort then move further away or even leave the area entirely.
